Former Charter Communications Manager Sentenced To Prison
A federal judge has sentenced a former Charter Communications employee to a prison term and restitution for stealing and then selling company merchandise.
On October 22 in New Haven, US District Judge Janet Bond Arterton sentenced Orlando Nadal, 39, of Meriden to 18 months in prison, followed by three years of probation, according to a statement from the US Attorneyâs office.
Last June 26, Nadal pleaded guilty to one count of interstate transportation of stolen merchandise arising from his scheme to defraud his employer, Charter Communications of Newtown, by stealing and selling more than $200,000 worth of equipment.
According to documents filed with the court and statements made in court, Nadal worked for Charter as a regional director of information technology and a director of technical services, with responsibilities that included ordering merchandise.
In pleading guilty, Nadal admitted that he stole networking and computer equipment from Charter by causing it to be sent to addresses that he controlled in Connecticut and other states. Nadal then sold the equipment to purchasers in Maryland, Arizona, and Oklahoma. Some of the equipment was sold over the Internet on eBay. In total, Nadal stole more than $200,000 worth of equipment and made more than $100,000 selling the equipment between 2004 and 2006, according to the US Attorneyâs office.
Nadal worked in Charterâs Newtown office until July 2006, when he left the company.
Judge Arterton ordered Nadal to pay to Charter restitution in the amount of $200,096.
The FBI investigated the case with the assistance of Charter.
