Selfless Service

To the Editor:

Hats off to the five volunteer fire departments for their dedicated service throughout the storm. Starting Saturday night they were all there once the trees starting falling. They were all out there making sure our lives and houses were safe from fallen trees and downed power lines.

They helped escort homeowners from their homes in extreme situations and assisted others in getting out so they could get to work. They never faltered going from one call to the next to the next all through Sunday, into Sunday night, Monday and Monday night when the calls went from “lines down” and “tree down” to “pump detail” — which continues still.

I’m sure many of them didn’t sleep for two days straight and never even made it back to the stations, not to mention that they all left the comfort and safety of their homes to protect our homes and keep us safe. A+ to all of them for volunteering their time so selflessly.
