Smith, With Pastel Demo, At Next SCAN Meeting

Rae Smith will be demonstrating in pastel at the next meeting of The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) on Wednesday, April 22, at 1:30 pm.

This meeting is open to the public and will be in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). All are welcome and admission is free.

Rae Smith, elected Master Pastelist in 1997 and Hall of Fame Honoree in 2014 by the Pastel Society of America, has exhibited her pastel paintings and oil paintings  throughout the United States as well as Japan, China, France, Italy, Russia, Taiwan and Canada.

Her paintings have won many awards including Gold Medal from Audubon Artists,  Founder’s Award from PSA, first prize for pastel from CLWAC, and an Artistic Excellence Award from The Salmagundi Club.

Ms Smith has had her work exhibited at and included in the permanent collections of Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, Ohio, and Noyes Museum, Oceanville, N.J.

In addition, her work has been included in Best of Pastel II, Pastel Application Techniques for Beginners, Mitsukoshi Magazine (Japan), Pastel Artist International Magazine, Pastel Journal Magazine and American Artist Magazine.

Ms Smith will have 18 of her paintings featured in an exhibition at Noyes Museum of Art in Oceanville, N.J., from May 29 to September 27. She is also included in the invitational exhibition currently on view at Canton Museum of Art, Ohio.
