The Newtown High School Winter Guards competed in the Musical Arts Conference at Jonathon Law High School in Milford on Saturday, March 12.

All three teams performed strong routines, narrowly missing first place wins by only one to two points.

The Varsity team's "The River" showcased lyrical and expressive composition synonymous with the relaxing rhythm of a river, which ramped up to a roaring flow of sabers, flags, and rifles.

The Junior Varsity team carefully "Intertwined" with methodic spinning and skill to entangle and entrance their audience.

The Junior team didn't miss a beat as they waved goodbye to winter, scatted past spring, and spiritedly welcomed "Summertime" with their display of dance.

The community will have the opportunity to see and support all three NHS Winter Guards and the Winter Percussion program on Saturday, March 26, at their home show, the 2016 Winter Extravaganza, at NHS, 12 Berkshire Road. The fundraising event will include food and baked goods for sale. The event will run from roughly 11 am until 6 pm. Doors will open and food will be available at 10 am. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
