Michael Battista, 79, of Sandy Hook died peacefully at Danbury Hospital, October 24. He was born in Ossining, N.Y., November 28, 1931, a son of Angelo and Mary (Zillotti) Battista.
Mr Battista served in the US Navy during the Korean War, from June 1951 to October 1953. He retired as a produce buyer from the Grand Union Co. He was an avid golfer, which he enjoyed for many years with his friends. He was a kind, gentle, and generous person throughout his life.
His loving wife Sylvia (Lalli) of 58 years; his daughters Linda Tortu, and her husband Jose Guzman, of Tarrytown, N.Y., and Angela Poirier, and her husband Bertrand, of Keene, N.H.; three grandchildren; his sisters Nicoletta Casasanta and Ida DeSantis; and many nieces and nephews survive Mr Battista. He was predeceased by his brother, Angelo, and his sister, Julia DiCairano.
His great sense of humor, wit, and devotion to others will be missed by those who knew him.
The family extends a special thank you to the exceptional care he received in ICU at Danbury Hospital, with Dr Mendes and the many caring doctors and nurses on the Ninth floor west.
Calling hours were scheduled at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Thursday, October 27, from 4 to 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial is to be celebrated in St Rose of Lima Church, Friday, October 28, at 11 am. Interment in Rural Cemetery, White Plains, N.Y., will be private.
