Purple Crush 4, Reds 3: The game was a scoreless battle into the forth inning when Ben Talbot knocked in two runs with a single. Strong pitching by both teams kept it a low-scoring game. Trevor Tyrrell pitched two scoreless innings, striking out three, while Miles Ricks, Dillon Robinson, Luke Azzarito, and Ben Talbot held the held the opposition to three runs for the game. After Ben Pinto blasted a double, Lyle Petrellese came up big, scoring Pinto with a double of his own, breaking a 2-2 tie in the fifth. The Reds came back to tie it again in the top of the sixth by a clutch hit by Jack Sullivan, setting the stage for a dramatic finish. Luke Azzarito led off with a single, then moved to third on a single by Ben Talbot. Miles Rick was clutch hitting a shot down the right field line scoring Azzarito for the win. For the Reds, catcher Jack Sullivan threw out two base runners attempting to steal second base to keep the game close. Jack Ketchum , Joey Rios, and James Mok all pitched well in defeat.

Grey Wolves 7, Middlebury 4: In a heated battle the Grey Wolves took down a tough Middlebury team. The game was won by a combination of timely hitting, strong pitching, and very good defense. Offensively the Wolves were led by co-game ball winners James Tibolla and Rob Hetzer. Tibolla went two-for-two and an RBI and Hetzer went one-for-two with an RBI and Ben Grenier reached base three times. Tibola also had a hand in the strong pitching performance with one inning of no-run ball. Other Pitching standouts included Kyle Nicholson and Joseph Pagett. Ben Grenier again showed his ability to get his pitch he wanted it.

Blue Dragons 12, Green Goblins 10: As Halloween rapidly approaches and a full moon fills the sky, strange events unfolded on the diamond for these two teams. The Green Goblins opened up a 5-2 lead heading into the bottom of the third inning. Jeff Gioiele hit one of his three singles of the day to tie the game. Carter Tagliarini, fresh from a prior event, stepped out of the car, into the batters box and laced a double past the left fielder and down the left field line for two more runs. Heading into the last inning the score remained 7-5. Due to a second hit batter in the inning, the Green Goblins had to remove their closer. The Blue Dragons seized the opportunity by scoring five more runs in the top of the sixth. With a 12-5 lead, the Blue Dragons closer hit a second batter. Then home plate seemed to have virtually vanished. One walk after another the Green Goblins clawed their way back. With the bases loaded and the score now at 12-10, Matt Blanco, the forth pitcher of the inning, got the strikeout to lock down the win for the Dragons.

Green Machine 10, Blue Sharks 10: In a back-and-forth battle that saw four lead changes, the Green Machine were led on offense by Chris Shaker, Patrick Hurley, Kyle Reilly, and Kyle Sullivan, while Hurley pitched two scoreless innings and Devin Johnson made a run-saving diving catch to keep the game tied.

Southbury 7, Wizards 4: The Wizards hosted Southbury on Saturday at Liberty Field. Sam Eppers and Ben Albee pitched four strong innings only allowing two runs. On offense and defense the Wizards were led by Tristan Andrew who hit a double to left scoring two runs and made a great catch in center field.

Purple Crush 13, Middlebury 7: Purple Crush traveled to Middlebury for a game destined to be as exciting as Quassy amusement park! Falling behind early 4-2 it didn’t look like the Purple monsters were on their game. But the bats came alive in the fourth inning when a bases loaded double by Marina Altimari got the team fired up. Ben Pinto smashed a double knocking in Altimari and the grape-colored kids never looked back. Keeping the momentum going Jacob Hinden blasted a single knocking in the fifth run of the inning. George Mohigal and Jesse Kinsman drew three walks each adding to the scoring, while Dillon Robinson and Trevor Tyrrell led the offense with two hits apiece. Miles Ricks, Ben Talbot, and Luke Azzarito all had hits during the win for Newtown.

Southbury 7, Reds 5: The Reds came out strong in the first inning by scoring four runs. Joey Rios and James Mok each drove in a run while Shea Talbot hit a laser line drive triple to score two more runs. Southbury was not to be denied in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs with some timely hitting and aggressive base running. The game stayed close until Southbury scored two more runs in the fifth inning to take a 7-4 lead. The Reds rallied for a run in the top of the sixth before Southbury shut the door for the victory.

Green Machine 6, Blue Dragons 3: Both team brought solid pitching to the mound, in a game that took less than 90 minutes. Matt Blanco started the game giving up only one run. The Green Machine came out swinging in the second with three hits in a row. Jake Kneski started it with a single, Patrick Hurley’s first of two singles notched the first RBI of the inning and Bradley Vadas drilled a triple to center field with the bases loaded to lead the Green Machine to five runs in the inning. On defense, Tyler Stroili opened the game with two scoreless innings, facing only eight batters. Jake Kneski also pitched two scoreless innings and threw out a runner attempting to steal to third to kill a rally. Kneski also pitched two scoreless innings, had a hit, and scored a run. The tandem Liam Murphy and Tyler Fuori had at it again. Liam pitched a scoreless third with three strikeouts. Tyler a scoreless forth and fifth with six strikeouts. Trailing 6-0 in their final at bat, the Blue Dragons would not quit. Singles by Max Hubner, Jeff Gioiele, Matt Blanco, and James Malin started the rally. But with the bases loaded and two outs, Patrick Hurley locked down the win with the strikeout.

Grey Wolves 8, Wizards 7: The Grey Wolves continued their hot streak, holding off a Wizards comeback in the late innings. For the Wolves, co-game ball winner Joseph Pagett started off the game with two innings of inspired pitching that included five strikeouts. In the fourth inning, bases loaded, Joseph Pagett showcased his defensive prowess by gobbled up a grounder at short and tagged out the runner and tossed the ball to Bryan Bailey to complete the double play. Pagett was helped out on the mound by Klye Nicholson who struck out three on ten pitches in the fourth, and rookie pitcher Bryan Bailey, Rob Hetzer, and the other game ball winner, William (Papelbon) Swift, who closed out the sixth. There were several excellent plays in the field during the game, including a hard hit grounder to Brenden Smith at third who was able to throw out the runner with a perfect throw to first. Kyle Nickolson also flashed the leather with a diving stop at shortstop with a follow-up throw from his back to a waiting Swift at second to beat the runner. Sam Suckow and Ryan Farrell where instrumental in the win with strong fielding and hitting performances; Suckow went one-for-two with a walk and Farrell supplied the first run of a three-run second inning. The Wizards were led on offense by Cookie Rojas who got on base in all three of his at-bats and Patrick Oberstadt who went two-for-three with two singles. On the mound the Wizards got solid efforts from Tristan Andrew, Ben Albee, Sam Eppers, and Josh Taylor. A couple of great defensive plays for the Wizards kept them in the game. Ryan Nolan with a sliding catch in left field and Sam Eppers making a great throw from left to Josh Taylor who made the play at the plate.

U15

Newtown Blue 3, Newtown Red 2: Newtown Blue defeated Newtown Red in a well-played game. Jack Procaccini picked up his fourth win of the season on the mound to go along with his two-for-two performance at the plate. Virgil Procaccini drove in the first run of the game with a deep sacrifice fly to left and Nick Randle and Jake Simonson each contributed RBI singles. Dan Harrison pitched two innings of one-hit ball and contributed a single and a run at the plate. Sam Czel pitched two innings of no-hit ball, striking out three batters, and Virgil Procaccini picked up the save for the Blue. Luke Rustici and Stephen Brittin pitched well in defeat, giving up only three runs on five hits. The game also featured some last-inning excitement. Conrad Morris of the Newtown Red singled to reach base in the top of the seventh. With two outs and the tying run on base, Charlie Huegi hit a deep fly to left field that appeared headed for the gap. Pat Pierce raced after the ball and made a spectacular, diving catch to end the game and preserve the victory. The win moved the Blue to 11-1 on the season.

Newtown Green 3, Newtown Blue 1: Newtown Green put a halt to the Blue’s nine-game winning streak with a 3-1 victory in fall baseball action. The pitching for both teams was very impressive as there were only nine hits and four walks for both teams combined. Jim Parker pitched a gem, throwing a complete game, four-hitter, including 11 strikeouts. Newtown Green took a 1-0 lead as Alex Klang delivered a clutch RBI single down the right field line. Anthony Venezia delivered a crushing, two-run double in the fourth, scoring Michael Parker and Dillon Palumbo. Virgil Procaccini scored the lone run for Newtown Blue and also went two-for-three at the plate. Sam Czel and Andrew Ross delivered the other hits for the Blue. Jack Procaccini suffered the loss on the mound despite pitching four innings of four-hit ball. The loss dropped the Blue to 11-2 on the season and improved Newtown Red’s record to 9-2.
