Newtown High School's Unified Theater program presented its original show Our Place in the World for the community June 4 and June 5.Our Place in the World told the story of a young man who moved to a new town and met new people at his new school.

The Saturday show took place in the evening and the Sunday show was a matinee. The performance was staged in the school's cafetorium.

In Unified Theater, students with and without disabilities, of all backgrounds, come together as equals to put on a production entirely organized, written and directed by the students themselves.

As the directors for the show, students Jordan Williams and Nicholas Stowell explained before the Saturday performance, Unified Theater was added as a class at NHS this year. It was an after-school program last year, its first year at the school.

"So get ready for our perfectly imperfect show," said Nicholas, before he and Jordan left the stage.

In lieu of a ticket price, attendees were asked to donate at the door to the Unified Theater program, which provides a basic knowledge of acting, technical production, playwriting, directing and producing a show, according to a release for the production.

The production was made possible by Unified Theater Inc, a national not-for-profit.

Students involved in this year's production included Jaime Beaurline, Stef Carr, Shannon Cheh, Rebecca Didomizio, Michael Leary, Jackie Magoon, Sydney Marino, Dani Mola, Jack Premus, Timmy Rogers, Maddie Rose, Julia Shuman, Sophia Spraggins, Ben Suckow, Jessica Viesto, Julia Shuman, and Erin Walsh.

Janice Gabriel and Alysia Caffrey were the advisors for the production, Harrison Hoffert was the stage manager, Robby Gray was the choreographer and Shannon Cheh was the inclusion specialist.
