Scary, Funny Scarecrows
Take Over NMS Lawn

By Monday morning, ballots had already been dropped off at The Beeâs 5 Church Hill Road building for this yearâs Newtown Middle School My Favorite Scarecrow Sculpture Contest.
Ballots can also be dropped off at Newtown Middle School, 10 Queen Street, until Saturday, October 29.
Each year student groups, including students involved in Art Enrichment and the Gifted and Talented Education Students, work to assemble scarecrows that will frighten away a demon of the groupâs choosing.
This yearâs My Favorite Scarecrow Sculpture Contest went on display Saturday, October 22, with students working to prepare their scarecrows for the public. The scarecrows will be on display through Saturday, October 29.
Each year eighth grade student groups are challenged to create a larger-than-life scarecrow that can withstand inclement weather.
Each student group is limited to spending $25 on its scarecrow. The creations are then put on display on schoolâs front lawn, voted on by the public for $1 per vote, and the top three winning scarecrow groups receive the profits to donate to a charity of their choice. Ballots for this yearâs entries are available at Newtown Middle School and online at www.newtownbee.com. Votes can be submitted with the accompanying payment to either NMS or dropped off at The Beeâs office.
A slideshow of each of the scarecrows on display is also available at newtownbee.com.
