SALEM, MASS. — Tradewinds Antiques will present its 30th all cane live auction Saturday, April 21, at the Salem Waterfront Hotel. The sale will begin at 11:30 am, with a preview from 9 to 11:15 am. The hotel is at 225 Derby Street.

There are many highlights in all categories and 201 lots will be offered, including several pieces from the fine collection of the late Philip Hampton

A sampling of highlights includes a superb Tiffany silver monkey ($9/13,000), a damascene claw and egg ($4/6,000), an uncommon pepperbox curio ($6,5/8,500); a rare aquarellists cane ($3/5,000); a Remington 22 curio ($6/8,000), a fine ivory Memento Mori ($3/5,000), a great California gold quartz ($6/8,000), a 1698 ivory pique (6/8,000), an important violin ($9/13,000), a wonderful rope carved nautical ($4,5/6,500), a splendid pique pomander ($15/25,000), a scarce “La Terrible” curio ($3,5/5,500), a Remington 32 curio ($6,5/8,500) and a top notch silver capped narwhal ($5/7,000).

The sale will be preceded by a special event and private auction preview April 20, at 7 pm. A preauction illustrated lecture will feature Barbara Staples, author and noted authority on Boston Post gold presentation canes. She will be speaking on “The Everlasting Life of the Boston Post Cane.” There is no charge for the lecture and hors d’oeuvres will be served. There will also be a cash bar.
