UPDATED November 17, 2015: This story has been updated to include details about December 11 reiki sessions.

The Resiliency Center of Newtown (RCN) has announced a number of upcoming programs.

All events will take place at RCN, on the lower level of the SCB Building, 153 South Main Street; guests should use the lower rear parking lot to access the center. Programs are free, although some do require registration. Details follow:

There will be a pair of book discussions concerning chapter 11 of Dr Bruce Perry’s book The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog, on Tuesdays November 17 and 24. Each discussion will run from 10 to 11:30 pm.

Residents interested in participating are asked to make a reservations by calling 203-364-9750 and indicating which discussion they wish to participate in.

The discussion can be enjoyed on its own, or in conjunction with The Ana Grace Project’s upcoming Love Wins Mental Health Conference, being held at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury on December 3. Dr Perry is an expert on childhood trauma and has written several books on the subject. He will be participating in the symposium next month.

RCN’s next monthly coffee hour will be Wednesday, November 18, from 10 to 11:30 am.

This month’s guest will be Michelle Brissette, who will lead a discussion on doTerra Essential Oils and how they can play a part in emotional well being.

Guests will learn more, and will be invited to enjoy a hand massage. No registration is necessary; drop-in guests are welcome.

Thanks to a partnership with Solstice Strategy Partners reiki practitioners, RCN will be offering free reiki sessions on Friday, December 11. Reservations are required for sessions, which will be available between 10 am and 2:30 pm.

Finally, brainspotting appointments are available on Friday and Saturday, December 18-19.

Brainspotting works with the deep brain and the body through its direct access to the autonomic and limbic systems within the body’s central nervous system. It is a physiological tool/treatment which has profound psychological, emotional, and physical consequences.

The treatment offers the opportunity to neurobioligically locate, focus, process, and release experiences and symptoms that are typically out of reach of the conscious mind and its cognitive and language capacity.

RCN offers brainspotting several times a year, and each session is typically 90 minutes. Sessions are conducted by Dr David Grand.

For an appointing call RCN, 203-364-9750, or send email to jholguin@resiliencycenterofnewtown.org.

Founded in the aftermath of 12/14, The Resiliency Center of Newtown has a full day of special offerings, including crisis counseling, planned for the third anniversary of the Sandy Hook School shootings. Residents can take advantage of the programs free of charge.
