Dr Robert C. Foege Credits His Teachers
A product of the Newtown education system, Dr Robert C. Foege, 34, graduated from The University of Washington School of Medicine on June 4 with the degree of medical doctor.
Dr Foege is doing his internship at Legacy Emanuel/Good Samaritan in Portland, Ore., and then to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston for his residency. His specialty is anesthesiology.
Dr Foege attended the Hawley School, Head Oâ Meadow, Newtown Middle School, and Newtown High School, Class of 1988, from which he graduated in three years.
After graduating with a degree in philosophy from Vassar College with honors in 1992, he traveled through the United States to get a handle on the choice of a career. Ending up in Seattle in 1995, he decided that a career in medicine was his natural calling.
He then attended the NW School of Acupuncture and graduated with a masterâs degree in acupuncture science in 2000. He also traveled to Katmandu, Nepal, and several Pacific Rim countries for personal instruction by acupuncture masters. After a year of practice he entered the University of Washingtonâs medical program.
Dr Foege credits much of his intellectual growth to several of his Newtown public school teachers. Among them are Mrs Newbold, who inspired his interest in science; Dr Tremaglio, who imparted a sense of intellectual rigor; Dr Jensen, who raised questions that continue to demand thought; and Mr Percivale, whose personal attention to his journal assignments were a great encouragement.
Dr Foegeâs father, Robert L. Foege, has lived in Newtown since 1973. His mother, Bernice Foege, resides in Manhattan. His sister, Christine Foege, also lives in Manhattan and is a Spanish language teacher there.
