Painting A Still Life: Next SCAN Program At Meeting House
The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Rick Daskam painting a still life setup in oil Wednesday, March 11, beginning at 7:30 pm.
The demonstration will take place in the lower lever of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The public is invited, free of charge.
Rick Daskam is a graduate of Paier College of Art, where he studied with Rudolf Zallinger and Ken Davies. He was honored with the Most Outstanding Illustrator Award at graduation and spent many years illustrating.
Mr Daskam’s paintings have appeared in art galleries and juried exhibitions throughout the Connecticut and New York area. In 1998, he followed his passion of plein air painting, and spent his time painting landscapes and farms in the local area surrounding his home.
In 2002 Mr Daskam visited Monhegan Island for the first time, and fell in love with its rugged beauty. Returning every year for a week of “sun up to sun down” painting, he has produced some of his most memorable works.
In 2004 Mr Daskam began entering juried art exhibitions and museum shows. His works have garnered numerous awards including the Collectors Award from the Butler Museum of American Art, The Claude Parsons Memorial Award for Landscape from American Artists Professional League, The Frank Vincent Dumond Award for Best Light and Atmospheric Effect from Hudson Valley Art Association, and most recently The Larry Newquist Award for Excellence from SCAN.
