Senior services for Newtown seniors are available at the Multipurpose Building on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook. The Senior Center is under the auspices of the Commission on Aging. The center is run by Senior Services Director Marilyn Place. For information about programs offered, call 203-270-4310.
You may drop in at the Senior Center weekdays between 9 am and 4 pm. A hot meal is served at noon, for which you must reserve three days in advance.
Newtown has daily door-to-door minibus service Monday through Friday. Buses also run all day from the Senior Center to Sand Hill Plaza. On Fridays, the bus alternates between rides to Danbury Fair Mall and Berkshire Plaza in Danbury (to Walmart Route 6). Cost is $1 each way for the Sand Hill Plaza trip. Call 203-748-2511 TWO DAYS IN ADVANCE to book a ride and get the out-of-town Friday schedule.

This Weekâs Programs
*Mohegan Sun Casino bus trip on Thursday, November 10, includes $15 food coupon and three $5 free bets. Depart at 8 am; cost is $30.
*The center will be closed for Veterans Day on November 11 and on November 24 and 25 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
*Line dancing has been canceled through November 15, and will resume on November 22 at 10:30 am.
Day Trips
*Visit the 9/11 Memorial in New York City on November 15. A family-style luncheon at the famous Italian restaurant Carmineâs is followed by a tour of the memorial. Depart at 8:45 am; cost is $74; waiting list only.
*Thanksgiving Celebration at the Inn at Villa Blanca on Monday, November 21, includes family-style luncheon, live music for your listening entertainment, a complimentary drink ticket and a gift upon arrival. Bus departs at 10:30 am, but you are welcome to carpool. Cost is $29.95.
