Honoring Scout Achievement

To the Editor:

On March 9, Pack 470 held its Annual Blue and Gold Banquet at Reed Intermediate School. The Blue and Gold Banquet is one of the highlights of the Cub Scout program. It brings together all the families of the Pack to enjoy a wonderful dinner and appreciate the outstanding accomplishments of their sons.

This year the scouts reached a phenomenal level of achievement. The Advancement Awards Ceremony included the Tigers, Wolves, Bears, Webelos I, Webelos II, and the Arrow of Light. A total of 71 Scouts received 189 awards. Most noteworthy were the Webelos II of Den 11 who earned the cherished rank of Arrow of Light. These distinguished Scouts are Nathaniel Dowd, Matthew Hess, Alex Klang, Matt Kornhaas, Lane Kummer, Keaton McCleary, Nicholas Scalzo, Tommy Shaker, Alister Soré, and Sinclar Soré. Many of these young men will soon enter Boy Scouts and are of the caliber that will eventually become Eagle Scouts.

Recognition also included the top salesmen of Pack 470’s annual Popcorn Sales program, which totaled $13,816.35. The 2007 “Popcorn King” was Michael Roche with at total of $1,003, followed by Scott Soifer, the “Big Kahuna” with a total of $718. Ten Scouts qualified for membership in the “Over $300 Club,” with Matt Campbell at the top with $474.

Approximately 235 people attended the 2008 Blue and Gold Banquet and special thanks goes to Cubmaster Bob Campbell, Committee Chairman Mitch Bolinsky, and the tremendous help that was forthcoming from a broad array of active parents. After many years of dedicated service to Pack 470, Mitch Bolinsky resigned from his current position and was thanked with a standing round of applause.

Congratulations to the young Scouts for their hard work in their advancement program and to the adult leadership of Pack 470 for making your Annual Blue and Gold Banquet such a memorable event for everyone.
