Flagpole Photographers Camera Club formally opened their 6th Annual “Newtown and Beyond” Photography Exhibit on Sunday, November 8, at Newtown Municipal Center.

The exhibit, which went up November 2, features 219 photos by 17 photographers who are members of the local camera club. The exhibition will remain on view in the main corridor of the town building through November 25.

Group representative Rhonda Cullens said that more than 75 people gathered Sunday afternoon to enjoy refreshments while taking in the broad variety of images decorating the main hallways of the center while John Voket provided quiet acoustic music.

"Thanks to a recent grant from the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission, the club was able to acquire additional exhibit display materials to mount this their largest exhibit yet," Ms Cullens said.

The club used a portion of the grant funds to purchase additional display molding strips, which they donated to the Town of Newtown for permanent installation at the municipal center. This molding allows for both sides of the hallway to be used by all future exhibitors displaying at the 3 Primrose Street.

“Newtown and Beyond” can be viewed during regular Municipal Center hours of Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm.

Flagpole Photographers Camera Club is a local non-profit group that enables members to share their images and expertise, to learn and grow in their photography, and to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow photographers. Members come from diverse backgrounds, with photographic skills ranging from beginning novices to professional photographers.

Most of the photos in the exhibit are available for sale. Purchase request sheets are located at the information tables on each end of the building. Purchase requests may also be sent to .Rhonda@CCullens.com

New members are always welcome to join the club.

Anyone interested in photography, whether just starting out or someone who has been shooting photos for many years, can find a place within the club. Dues are $35 per person or $55 for a family. Stu-dents may join at no charge.

The talented shutterbugs of the Flagpole Photographers Camera Club traveled the world, and as far as their own back yard, to capture dozens of familiar and intriguing images that will be on display through November at Newtown Municipal Center. The club held its opening reception for "Newtown & Beyond" on Sunday, November 8, welcoming family members, friends and guests including Club member Chane Cullens and Sophie Zyla, Gabrielle Gleason and First Selectman Pat Llodra (background right).
