Newtown Kindness announces it has changed its name to Charlotte Helen Bacon Foundation. The new name reflects the organization's desire to move in a direction beyond kindness initiatives. In addition, the organization has new a website, charlottehelenbaconfoundation.org.

A benefit concert is planned for June 17 at the Emelin Theater in Mamaroneck, N.Y. The Alternate Routes, a local Connecticut band, and Unforgettable Fire, a New York City-based band, will perform. The organization will also use the evening to celebrate the past accomplishments of Newtown Kindness and introduce the Charlotte Helen Bacon Foundation, as well as the mission and direction of the foundation. Tickets are $150, and a limited number remain available online.

"It is an exciting time for us, as an organization" said, JoAnn Bacon, board member and Charlotte's mother. "We have evolved and taken the time to redefine our goals and mission to better reflect the direction we have been led. We continue to keep our eyes on Charlotte. She is our guide."

The programs and initiatives of Charlotte Helen Bacon Foundation include:

*Charlotte's Litter Therapy Dog Program, which advocates for animal assisted activities with therapy/comfort dogs and their roles as supportive friends and trusted companions;

*Charlotte Bacon Veterinary Scholarship at North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine, a scholarship fund that has already provided financial aid to six recipients in honor of the young girl who dreamed of being a veterinarian;

*The Charlotte Bacon Selah Scholarship, which will help a bereaved couple who is grieving the death of a child through their attendance at the annual Selah Retreat offered through the MISS Foundation; and

*The Charlotte Bacon Bereavement and Grief Research Initiative, which supports organizations that care for bereaved families and grief research.

Like its predecessor, Charlotte Helen Bacon Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
