It is coming down to the nitty gritty for the Newtown Women’s Slo-Pitch Softball League.

The ‘A’ Division playoffs began this week and ‘B’ Division playoffs begin early next week. Then it will come down to the championship games on Wednesday, August 13 (rain date – Monday, August 18) at Dickinson Park.

The ‘B’ game will be at 6 and the ‘A’ game at 8 pm. There will also be a picnic on August 13. While the league will provide the charcoal and chips, players should bring their own food and beverages.

The ‘A’ schedule for Wednesday, August 6 (barring rain), had Beeline Woodworking vs Fireside Inn at Treadwell in Game 1, Curtiss & Crandon vs Firehouse Eatery at Fairfield Hills in Game 2, and Davidson Insurance vs 3-D Homes at Dickinson in Game 3.

The winner of the Beeline/Fireside game heads to the championship while the winners of Game 2 and Game 3 were slated to play off on Thursday for a trip to the championship game.

In recent action –

Davidson Insurance 25, Walker Industrials 18 – Walker established a nine-run lead after five innings, but Davidson rallied for the win. Denise Passano, Michele Smith and Cindy Lapp were solid in the field.

Sunday Slo-Pitch

Karl Svensson and Jack Huray went 4-for-4 to lead a 25-hit attack and lift Hurd Construction to a 17-2 win over Southbury Printing. Scott Hurd doubled three times while Bill Girard and Kyle Trocolla added three hits apiece. Bob McHugh and Jay Edwards had strong defensive games.

Weeknite Slo-Pitch

Hot Shots (5-1) and Newtown Phone Book (4-2) lead the ‘A’ and ‘B’ Divisions, respectively, in the Weeknite Slo-Pitch Softball League. Recent action –

Kellogg’s 15, Hot Shots 12 – Jim, Bryan and Chris K. banged out three hits apiece for Kellogg’s.

Newtown Phone Book 14, Fireside 7 – Jim M. was 3-for-3 while Jim was 3-for-4 to lead the Phone Book.

NGFL 12, DMG 6 – Ed Lovely had four hits while Keith & Steve had three hits apiece to lead Nice Guys Finish Last.

DMG 21, Church Hill 16 – Berte & Fiscella banged out four hits and scored four runs apiece to lead DMG.

SMC 18, Kelloggs 9 – Doug. O had four hits and three runs while Mike K. had three hits and three runs to lead SMC.

Other Guys 16, SMC 12 – Carlos was 4-for-5 and Teddy 3-for-3 to lead the Other Guys.

Other Guys 25, My Place 24 – Mike D. banged out five hits and Pucci added four more to lead the Other Guys.

DMG 18, Phone Book 13 – Arnold and Cascolan banged out four hits each to lead DMG.

Church Hill 19, Fireside 4 – George H. was 4-for-4 and Mike D. 3-for-3 to lead Church Hill.

Hot Shots 14, Kellogg’s 7 – Samo scored five runs while Gene, Kasby and Doug collected three hits apiece to lead Hot Shots.

NGFL 13, Church Hill 12 – Bill was 4-for-4 and Craig 3-for-4 to lead NGFL.

Hot Shots 18, Other Guys 2 – Keith and John had three hits apiece for Hot Shots.

SMC 5, My Place 1 – Larry Miller singled and homered to lead SMC.

Hot Shots 10, Other Guys 9 – Jimmy T. was 4-for-4 to lead Hot Shots.

My Place 10, SMC 9 – Mole had three hits and Nate homered to power My Place.

Phone Book 11, DMG 8 – Ray and Randy collected three hits each to lead the Phone Book.

Church Hill 23, Fireside 11 – Dave collected five hits and Sean added three to lead Church Hill.

Phone Book 17, Fireside 14 – Gary and Steve combined for eight hits to power the Phone Book.

NGFL 13, DMG 8 – Dave was 4-for-4 while Mark and Dan collected three hits apiece to pace NGFL.

Kellogg’s 13, My Place 10 – Chris Dennis had four hits, including a homer, while Bryan and Sloper both homered to lead Kellogg’s.

Other Guys 19, My Place 11 – Ted, Tony and John M. had three hits each to lead the Other Guys.

Hot Shots 9, SMC 2 – Jimmy T. and Kasby had three hits each to lead Hot Shots.

Kellogg’s 20, Phone Book 8 – Chris Kachur, D’Angelo and Dennis banged out three hits each to power Kellogg’s.

Other Guys 26, SMC 19 – Carlos and Eric combined for nine hits to lead the Other Guys.

Hot Shots 16, My Place 14 – Steve Powers collected three hits to lead Hot Shots.

Church Hill 18, NGFL 11 – Bobby and Mike M. had three hits each to lead Church Hill.

Phone Book 15, NGFL 7 – Randy and Ray banged out three hits each to lift Phone Book to the win.

‘A’ Division – Hot Shots 5-1, SMC 4-2, Other Guys 4-2, Kellogg’s 3-2, My Place 0-6; ‘B’ Division – Newtown Phone Book 4-2, 100 Church Hill 3-2, Nice Guys Finish Last 3-2, Danbury Medical Group 2-3, Fireside Inn 0-4.
