Berkshire Road

About 2 pm August 5, motorist Martin Payson, 61, of Carmel, N.Y., who was driving a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan minivan westward on Berkshire Road (Route 34), slowed for traffic conditions, police said.

Westbound motorist Jade Guo, 51, of Darien, who was driving a 2001 Nissan Altima, then struck the Dodge from behind, police said.

Ambulance volunteers went to the scene to check on those involved in the crash, but there were no injuries, police said. Police issued Guo a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

 

Church Hill Crash

About 3:09 pm August 5, motorist William DeSimone, 46, of 27 Chipmunk Trail, who was driving a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup truck eastward on Church Hill Road, struck the rear end of an eastbound 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee sport-utility vehicle driven by Caitlin Smiley, 16, of 8 Rockywood Drive, police said.

The collision occurred near the Exit 10 on-ramp of eastbound Interstate 84, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued DeSimone an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Nissan Vs Chevrolet

Police report that at about 6:42 am August 7, motorist Robin Schoenbacher, 36, of Ansonia, who was driving a 2004 Nissan X-Terra eastward on Route 34, struck the rear end on an eastbound 2004 Chevrolet Express van, which had stopped for traffic conditions near Wasserman Way. The Chevrolet was driven by Paulo Almeida, 35, of Stratford, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Schoenbacher a written warning for following too closely.

Intersection Collision

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Swamp Road and Botsford Hill Road about 7:21 am August 4, police said.

The accident involved motorist Karl Philippi, 56, of 42 Swamp Road, who was driving a 1997 Nissan pickup truck, and Gisela Matisons, 59, of West Haven, who was driving a 2000 Nissan Altima, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Philippi for failure to grant the right of way at an intersection.

Glen Road DUI

Police report that they stopped motorist Harold Therien, 63, of 48 Housatonic Drive for erratic driving at about 1:40 am August 12 on Glen Road in Sandy Hook.

After investigating, police charged Therien with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and driving without automotive insurance.

After processing, Therien posted $250 bail and was released for an August 29 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Warrant Served

On August 12, Newtown police went to the Wolcott Police Department and took custody of Joseph Lynch, 33, of Wolcott, serving a warrant against Lynch for his inaction regarding a past vehicular violation.

Newtown police charged Lynch with failure to pay a fine or plead, and also with parking or standing in a fire zone. The vehicular incident occurred in April.

After posting $50 bail, police released Lynch for an August 30 court appearance. 

Truck Hits Bridge

About 10:44 am August 9, trucker Keith Murphy, II, 23, of Wallingford, who was driving a 1999 International box truck westward on Botsford Hill Road, attempted to drive beneath the Housatonic Railroad overpass there, police said.

The truck bears a sign stating that it is 12 feet, six inches tall, and the bridge bears a sign stating that its clearance is 11 feet, six inches, police noted.

Murphy told police that he thought he could drive beneath the overpass, but the top of the truck struck the bottom of the bridge, causing the truck to become stuck beneath it, police said.

A heavy-duty wrecker freed the stuck truck. Police issued Murphy an infraction ticket for exceeding a posted vehicular height limit.

Vehicular Vandalism

Sometime between 7 and 11 pm on August 5, someone damaged a 2001 Toyota Camry and a 1992 Ford Taurus, which were parked on Dayton Street in Sandy Hook Center. Police ask anyone with details on the crimes to contact them at 426-5841.

Honda Vs Honda

Police report a collision involving two motorists driving Hondas in Botsford about 1:10 pm August 5.

Motorist Maria Cinquegrana, 18, of Ox Hill Road, who was driving a 2000 Honda sedan southward on South Main Street, stopped in order to make a left turn onto Button Shop Road, police said.

Southbound motorist Casey Kern, 18, of Morris, who was driving a 1999 Honda station wagon, then struck the Honda sedan from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Kern a written warring for following too closely.

Motorcycle Crash

Motorcyclist Alan Manes, 22, of Head O’ Meadow Road, who was driving a 2006 Honda southward on the northern section of Peck’s Lane about 9:12 pm August 11, lost control of the motorcycle and hit some curbing, after which the motorcycle went off the road and into a stand of trees, police said. Manes was wearing a helmet, police said.

Manes received a collarbone injury, according to police. Ambulance volunteers transported him to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries. Botsford firefighters responded to the accident, which is under investigation.

 

Rear-Ender

Motorist Lisa Ann Vacciono, 35, of Milford, who was driving a 2003 Honda Odyssey minivan southward on South Main Street about 3 pm August 8, stopped for traffic conditions at that street’s intersection with Prospect Drive, police said.

Southbound motorist Diana Pose, 20, of Danbury, who was driving a 1992 Nissan Stanza sedan, then drove into the rear end of the minivan, police said. There were no injuries.

Police issued Pose an infraction ticket for following too closely and for driving without a license.

Evading Responsibility

Police said that sometime between 11 pm August 14, and 5:44 am August 15, an unknown motorist, who was driving westward on Riverside Road, struck a curbside mailbox along the eastbound road shoulder near 118 Riverside Road, and then continued driving westward without stopping. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the crash to contact them at 426-5841.

BMW Vs Pothole

Police report that motorist Rosaria Carozza, 38, of 43 Yogananda Street told them on August 4 that she was driving a 2006 BMW 525-Xi sedan eastward near 10 Gelding Hill Road, when the auto’s right front tire went flat after rolling through a pothole in the road. Police took no enforcement.

Mini Cooper Rollover

Motorist Robert A. Turner, Jr, 20, of Bridgeport was driving a 2003 Mini Cooper sedan westward near 30 Church Hill Road about 1:39 am August 16, when the tiny auto struck curbing along the right road shoulder, spun around, and rolled over onto its roof, police said.

Turner and a passenger were able to exit the upturned auto without injury, police said. State police aided town police at the accident scene.

Police issued Turner an infraction ticket for making an improper turn.

 Criminal Attempt

About 1 am August 17, police investigated a report of a suspicious person who was outside the home of a 14-year-old girl on Sugar Street.

Police said that suspicious person turned out to be a 17-year-old boy who had previously been arrested on a risk of injury to a minor charge in connection with his contact with that girl.

Police then charged the loitering boy with criminal attempt to commit criminal trespassing and with criminal attempt to commit risk of injury to a minor.

Police transported the boy to the police station where he was held overnight on $10,000 bail for an  appearance later that day in Danbury Youthful Offender Court. Because the boy is under age 18, state law shields his identity.

DUI Arrest

About 11:30 am on August 16, police spotted a 1994 Nissan Altima traveling eastward on Church Hill Road with a broken taillight, so they stopped it to investigate.

After giving motorist Klever Tello, 31, of Danbury field sobriety tests, police charged him with driving under the influence, driving while under suspension, and driving without a taillight.

After processing, police released Tello on $70 bail for a September 1 court appearance.

Rear-Ender

Police report a two-vehicle collision involving trucks on South Main Street about 2:30 pm August 15.

Northbound motorist Gaetano Carrara, 65, of Bridgeport, who was driving a Ford truck/trailer combination, slowed to turn right into a parking lot at 259 South Main Street, and was struck from behind by northbound motorist Craig Chapman, 22, of Shelton, who was driving a Dodge pickup truck, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Chapman a written warning for following too closely.
