Relentless Work

To the Editor:

A few years ago the town’s land use department filed a cease and desist order against Newtown Transload, the station operator in Hawleyville, because it violated several environmental policies. The Solid Waste Rail Transfer Facility has finally ceased operation.

Land Use Director George Benson has been working diligently with residents and other town officials to alleviate these zoning violations. George deserves much of the credit for his relentless work resulting with Housatonic Railroad’s decision to shut down the transfer facility.
