Scores of pieces of heavy equipment, which had been used by JF Walsh Mulch & Logging Co. for years at its Sandy Hook work yard at 4 Toddy Hill Road, were sold at auction there on November 20.

About 300 people attended. The mulch yard’s section with frontage on Berkshire Road held dozens upon dozens of heavy pickup trucks driven there by bidders at the auction.

Auctioneer Sammy Petrowsky of Petrowsky Auctioneers, Inc of North Franklin ran the auction, which simultaneously occurred at the mulch yard and among registered bidders viewing the proceedings via a live stream online.

To illustrate the material for sale, the auctioneers used a drone which provided live aerial views of the industrial items for the auction’s Internet stream.

The list of items auctioned included loaders with rubber tires, a mulch-coloring unit, screening equipment, crawler tractors, excavators, tractor-trailer trucks, dump trucks, storage containers, a wood splitter, generator, welder, and power washer, among much other industrial gear.

Reached by telephone on November 24, Mr Petrowsky said of the auction, “It was excellent. The results were great.”

Mr Petrowsky said that approximately 185 items were sold.

“It was extremely successful,” he said adding, however, that he was not at liberty to disclose the financial aspects of the auction.

James Walsh, the proprietor of the mulch firm which is going out of business, declined comment for this story.
