George Kopchik, 91, formerly of Stratford, died September 3 at Bethel Health Care Center. Mr Kopchik, a World War II veteran of the US Army serving in the Philippines, was born in Granville, N.Y., to John and Susan Kopchik and had been a lifelong area resident. He was the widower of Susie Selepes Kopchik.
Survivors include his devoted son, Robert Kopchik and his wife, Rosemary, of Newtown; his cherished grandchildren, Robert Kopchik and his wife, Kristin, of California and Amy Kopchik of Newtown; a great-granddaughter, Mackenzie; a sister, Helen Belush of Southbury; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr Kopchik was a former employee of Tomlinson, Hawley and Patterson Construction Company and was a member of Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church of St John the Baptist, and the VFW Post 9460-Stratford.
Funeral services took place on September 6 in Adzima Funeral Home, Stratford, with the Very Rev Luke Mihaly and Very Rev David Cochran officiating.
Interment with full military honors was in St Johnâs Cemetery, Stratford.
