It was a long road to the finals (a 16-inning marathon and a couple doubleheaders) but Mitchell Architectural and Brookfield made it – finally – and got locked up in an epic battle that ended with Brookfield being crowned champions.

The final score: 12-10.

Newtown held a 3-2 lead at the end of the first inning, but Brookfield scored eight times in the second to take a 10-3 lead. Newtown rallied back with a run in the fourth and six more in the fifth, but couldn’t draw even.

Steve Vichiola was 3-for-3 with a double and four RBI to spark the Mitchell offense. Mike Chapin, Bob Grauer, Dan Bunger, Jesse Birden (double) and Mike Murphy all had hits. Rich Temple pitched exceptionally well in relief, allowing the locals to rally back.

Newtown (#1) 12, Brookfield 2 – Tom Ermini pitched a four-hitter, striking out eight batters to lead Newtown to a season-opening win in Senior Babe Ruth League action. Jeff LaFlamme, Matt Glander, Jake Maher and Ermini banged out two hits apiece.

Newtown Bee 5, Swiss Army Knife 1 – Seth Hull scattered four hits and whiffed 12 batters to lead The Newtown Bee to the win. Jesse Furphy, Alex Hennessey and Ryan Martin were strong in the field while Colin Cieniawa had two hits and Tom Selleck had two RBI.

Newtown Bee 15, Brookfield 6 – The Bee took advantage of five Brookfield errors and 14 bases on balls to win. Scudder Baggett, Jesse Furphy and Colin Cienawa pitched well while Ryan Martin and Brandon Reilly had two RBI apiece. Jasper Ress, Jon Kemph, Andrew Frank and Matt Gaudet played well in the field.

Mitchell Architectural 13, Newtown Bee 11 – Steve Vichiola scored four runs to lead Mitchell to the win. For The Bee, Seth Hull had three hits and Tom Sellect had four RBI.

Classic Designs of New England 6, Newtown (#4) 3 – Zachary Seaman, Brandon Buzaid and Nick Urso powered the offense and led Classic Designs to the win. Ryan Clark pitched well and Keith Hogenauer was strong in the field. For No. 4, Kyle DiNicola, Walter Murphy, Kurtis Liska and Alex Buckman hit the ball hard.

Classic Designs of New England 4, Bethel (#2) 1 – David Rodriguez, Nick Urso, Ryan Boucher, Ian Herwig, Graham Moller and Ryan Clark had hits to pace Classic Designs.

 

National League

Gruce Tile 8, Edwards Construction 7 – Andrew LaMarche smacked four hits while Joe Fedak and Adam Wenick added three each to lead Gruce Tile. Evaan Barreto and Connor MacNamarra chipped in with RBI’s while Fedak turned in a stellar performance on the mound. Edwards was led by Matt Hamilton, George Zaruba and Thomas Budd (inside-the-park homer) at the plate while Tyler Edwards did a fine job pitching.

Gruce Tile 4, Attorney Kelleher 3 – Kevin McCarthy drew a bases loaded walk to force home the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth inning to lead Gruce Tile. Joe Fedak, Anthony Gruce and Nat Crevier all drove in runs. For Attorney Kelleher, Adam Schankman belted a dramatic two-out, three-run homer over the fence in left-centerfield in the bottom of the sixth to force extra innings. Ralph Sergiovanni and Kyle Kromberg combined to strike out 11 batters.

Edwards Construction 5, Newtown Police Union 4 – Herlof Sorenson knocked in George Zaruba with the winning run in the bottom of the last inning to lead Edwards. Matt Hamilton, Kyle Droniak and Zack Faurote all had hits. For NPU, Jeff Spencer and Keith McGrath pitched well while Tory Deaken, Kevin O’Connell and Dale Neves played well.

Aerco International 9, Newtown Police Union 6 – Cole Depuy and Michael Coates combined on the mound for 11 strikeouts and led Aerco to the win. Jamie Tibbetts tripled and Depuy doubled to pace the offense with Coates going 4-for-4. For NPU, Keith McGrath tripled, Will Werner knocked in a couple of runs, and Jeff Spencer and Tory Deakin banged out two hits apiece.

Aerco International 8, Church Hill Physical Therapy 4 – Andy Lapple went 3-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored to lead Aerco. Jamie Tibbetts tripled while Ryan Zitnay and Andrew Bounocore had hits. For Church Hill, Casey Tenney had two hits and two runs scored while Ben Collins had a hit and two RBI. Jeff DiNicola and Kyle O’Connor played well.

Aerco International 5, Gruce Tile 3 – Michael Coated had a pair of hits, including a double, to lead Aerco to the win. Cole Depuy pitched well while Shane Casey sparked the defense with a fine play at second base. For Gruce, Joe Fedak had a pair of hits while Andrew LaMarche, Adam Wenick, Connor Maloney and Anthony Gruce hit the ball hard.

AAA

Robert Ponsky DDS 12, Tendler Realtors 4 – Robert Carroll, Derek Krewson and Cody Williams combined for a well-pitched ball game to lead Ponsky. Mike Herring and Jake Eventoff anchored the defense while Kyle Packer powered the offense. For Tendler, Alex Nordstrom led the hitting attack while Matt Genovese and Colby Summerlin played excellent defense. Johnny Fracker pitched 2 solid innings.

AA

Lindin Consulting 14, Bob Tendler Real Estate 6 – John Mathews, Ian Kirner and Andrew Cebry pitched well to lead Lindin to the win. Austin Fiori played well at third. For Tendler, Mason West and Curtis Droniak pitched well.

My Place Pizza 12, Dental Associates 4 – Trey Trudell, Chris Tenney and Oliver Powers each put in two solid innings of mound work while Connor Blanc and Greg Williamson powered the offense. For Dental, Ryan Tita (who went 7-for-7 at the plate in the playoffs and struck out 16 batters in six innings of pitching) and Cole Baldino powered the Dental Associates offense.

A

Associated Refuse 7, Mona Lisa Restaurant 6 – Devin Dinicola, Nick Barreto, Joe Davis, Andrew Kelley and Sam Ashey swung the bats well to lead Associated. Defensively, Brandon Smith was awesome at second base making an unassisted out in the third inning. Gary Braun, Patrick Milano and Ryan Palmer hit the ball hard to lead Mona Lisa.

S&K Septic 7, Curtis & Crandon 3 – JP Blanco had a pair of doubles while Stefan Hennessey tripled and homered to lead S&K. Tyler Hanley pitched a scoreless inning. For C&C, Jake Locorotondo had a big hit while Tyler Ruefenacht and Brad Fish were defensive stars.

Acorn Electric 8, Mastercard 7 – Miles LoBuglio went 2-for-3 and drove in the winning run for Acorn. Jordan Hensel (2-for-3), Brendan Callery (2-for-3), David Gerics (2-for-2) and Gavin Scallon (2-for-2) all contributed key hits. For Mastercard, Brian Kruger (2-for-3), Robbie Hughes (2-for-3), Dylan O’Connor (3-for-3), Mario Pizaghelli (2-for-3) and Kevin LeBlanc (4-for-4) hit the ball hard.
