Park Lane Accident
Motorist Arthur Nelson, 86, of 14 Park Lane, who was driving a 1998 Chrysler Cirrus westward on Park Lane about 7:40 pm January 14, was traveling on a curve in the road and then slid off the street, striking a utility pole, police said.
Nelson was not injured in the mishap, according to police. Nelson received an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn, police said.

House Break-In
Police learned on the morning of January 20, that sometime between 4:30 pm January 19 and 7:30 am January 20, someone forced entry into a home under construction at 50 Winton Farm Road and stole multiple door knobs worth approximately $400.
Entry was gained via an interior garage door, police said. The incident involves burglary, larceny, and criminal trespassing.
Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them at 426-5841.
Multiple Charges
State police report that on the afternoon of January 20, they stopped motorist David Kaza, 24, of 4 Clearview Drive for following another motorist too closely on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 15, in Southbury.
On learning that Newtown police held warrants for Kazaâs arrest, state police turned him over to Newtown police who then charged Kaza with three counts of second degree failure to appear in court, plus one count of driving under the influence, two counts of driving while under suspension, and one count of making an improper turn.
Newtown police said they held Kaza on $17,500 bail for a January 23 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Drug Arrest
About 9 pm January 22, police said they stopped motorist Ray Velez, 25, of Danbury for a speed violation on Mt Pleasant Road. Police said they then brought their police dog to the scene to search Velezâs vehicle for drugs. The dog located a small amount of marijuana and a marijuana pipe, according to police.
Police arrested Velez on charges of traveling unreasonably fast, driving while under suspension, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police released Velez on $100 bail for a February 7 court appearance.
VW Hits Tree
Motorist Colleen Glaser, 24, of 189 Hanover Road was driving a 2000 Volkswagen Beetle westward on Hanover Road about 8:30 am January 20, when after taking a curve, the auto slid on the icy road, spun around and struck a tree on the right side of road, police said.
Glaser was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Ring Found
A childâs finger ring was found on Washington Avenue, near Church Hill Road, in Sandy Hook Center on the morning of January 21, said police, who are holding the found ring for safekeeping. The owner may claim it by contacting Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.
Vehicular Violations
About 6 pm January 22 on South Main Street, police observed a northbound 1999 Cadillac Catera that nearly struck the northbound vehicle in front of it. The Cadillac also was seen crossing the roadâs center line several times, police said. Police said they then stopped the Cadillac on Main Street to investigate.
Motorist Pape Diop, 21, of New Haven was charged with following too closely, driving while under suspension, and failure to drive to the right. Police released Diop on $100 bail for a February 7 court appearance.
Gas Station Incident
Police report a case of evading responsibility following a motor vehicle accident at the Mobil gas station at 62 Church Hill Road about 9 pm January 20.
A person who was driving a black Chevrolet sport-utility vehicle pulled into the gas stationâs lot and struck a parked tractor-trailer gasoline tanker truck that was filling the stationâs underground storage tanks with fuel, police said. The SUV hit a fender on the truckâs trailer.
The SUV driver then drove away before police arrived to investigate. The were no injuries in the case, which is under investigation.
Boulevard Collision
About 9:30 pm January 14, motorist Melissa Yitts, 16, of 8 Prospect Drive, who was driving a 1998 Dodge Stratus southward on The Boulevard, lost control of the vehicle near 24 The Boulevard, went across the roadâs center line, and struck some guardrailing, police said.
Police issued Yitts an infraction ticket for failure to drive to the right and also for violating passenger restrictions that are placed on new drivers. Yitts had a 16-year-old passenger in the auto, police said.
Rollover MVA
About 4:30 am January 20, motorist Matthew Simpson, 20, of 50 Pole Bridge Road, who was driving a 1991 Ford Taurus westward near 7 Berkshire Road, lost control of the auto and struck a utility pole along the right side of the road, police said.
The vehicle rolled over 1½ times and came to rest on its roof, according to police. Simpson was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn and for failure to wear a seatbelt.
Icy Roadway
Motorist Howard Lasser, 50, of Brookfield was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty southward on Obtuse Road about 7:13 am January 19, when he rounded a curve, and then slid on some ice, police report.
The Jeep went off the northbound road shoulder and struck a rock wall, police said. Lasser was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for failure to keep to the right on a curve.
Explorer Vs Explorer
An accident involving two Ford Explorer sport-utility vehicles occurred on Main Street about 4:45 pm January 12, according to police.
Motorist Arturo Wilson, 28, of Raleigh, N.C., who was driving a 2000 Explorer southbound, stopped for traffic conditions, and was then struck from behind by southbound motorist Samantha Petitfrere, 27, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1996 Explorer, police said.
There were no injuries. Petitfrere received a written warning for following too closely.
Tools Taken
Police learned on the morning of January 20, that someone had broken into a storage facility at 160 Sugar Street sometime between 4 pm January 19, and 7 am January 20, and stole several chainsaws and various tools. More than $5,000 worth of items were stolen, police said. Police are investigating the burglary/larceny and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 270-8888.
Highway Incident
State police report they charged a man with three violations following an incident on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11, on the afternoon of January 18.
State police said they arrested Arthur Johnson, 35, of Waterbury on a charge of disorderly conduct and also on two counts of risk of injury to a minor.
State police held Johnson on $10,000 bail for a January 19 court appearance.
Exit 9 Accident
State police report an accident in a snowstorm about 4:17 am January 23 that caused travel delays on eastbound Interstate 84.
State police said eastbound motorist Margarito Garcia, 33, of Danbury, who was driving a 2000 Dodge Ram pickup truck about 500 feet east of the Exit 9 on-ramp, lost traction and swerved in front of eastbound tractor-trailer truck driver David Novak, 47, of Carbondale, Penn., resulting in a collision.
There were no injuries. Garcia was traveling at a speed too fast for conditions, state police said.
Warrant
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, at about 11:30 am on January 21, Shaun W. McLean, 26, of 55 Sugar Street turned himself over to police at the police station and was charged with illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle.
Police said that on November 30, they noticed that McLean had a survival knife with a nine-inch blade in the front passenger area of a motor vehicle. Police then sought a warrant for McLeanâs arrest.
After processing, police released McLean on $4,000 bail for a February 3 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Shoplifting Charge
Police said that Dina Gutwillig, 41, of 48 Mile Hill Road South allegedly placed a number of store merchandise items in a shopping cart and then concealed those items with her coat at the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village on Queen Street on the afternoon of January 23.
Gutwillig then paid for some other items and left the store, after which she was apprehended by store security staff, police said.
Police charged Gutwillig with sixth degree larceny. She was released on $100 bail for a February 7 court appearance.
Moving Violations
Police said they observed motorist Ervin Flores, 26, of Danbury driving 40 miles per hour in a 25-mph zone on Glover Avenue on January 24, so they stopped him on Queen Street to investigate.
Police arrested Flores on charges of traveling too fast, driving while under suspension, and failure to return a suspended license to the state Department of Motor Vehicles.
Police released Flores on a written promise to appear February 7 in Danbury Superior Court.
Dog Charges
After learning on January 24 that Monroe police had stopped motorist Sarah Corby, 24, of Bridgeport on Route 25 in Monroe, Newtown police transported Corby to the Newtown police station because they held a warrant for her arrest.
Newtown police charged Corby with failure to respond to an infraction and with two counts of allowing a dog to roam. The dog charges originated in a 2005 incident.
Police released Corby on $100 bail for a February 7 court appearance.
Ford Vs Chevy
About 11:36 am January 22, motorist Michelle Camarata, 43, of 191 Walnut Tree Hill Road, who was driving a 2000 Ford Windstar eastward on Church Hill in Sandy Hook Center, struck the rear end of an eastbound 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Ashley Madore, 17, of Southbury, police said. There were no injuries. Camarata received a written warning for following too closely, police said.
Hawleyville Accident
About 7:46 pm January 24, motorist Marion Crisalli, 41, of 5 Pilgrim Lane, who was driving a 2000 Hyundai Elantra eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, made a left turn onto Hawleyville Road, police said.
But in making that left turn, Crisalli did not go around a traffic island at that intersection and incorrectly drove onto Hawleyville Roadâs southbound lane, instead of going onto its northbound lane, police said.
The Hyundai then collided with a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup truck being driven southward on Hawleyville Road by Richard Camejo, 46, of 1 Patricia Lane, police said.
Crisalli reported a wrist injury, but declined medical attention, police said. Crisalli received an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn and also received a written warning for failure to carry a vehicle registration.
New Lebbon Road
Motorist Charles Privalsky, 57, of Pompano Beach, Fla., who was driving a 1997 Jeep Cherokee southward on New Lebbon Road about 7:52 am January 24, lost control of the vehicle on an icy curve and went off the right road shoulder, striking a utility pole, police said.
Privalsky was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Tractor-Trailer
Tractor-trailer truck driver Li George, 40, of Rowland Heights, Calif., who was driving a 2000 Volvo truck southward on High Rock Road about 8:49 am January 24, encountered a northbound driver who had entered the southbound lane, so George swerved to avoid a collision, but in doing so went off the right road shoulder and became stuck, police said.
George was not injured. Police issued George a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Buick Roadmaster    Damaged
Police report an incident in which an unknown motorist drove into a large parked, unoccupied sedan and then left the scene without reporting the accident, constituting a case of evading responsibility.
Police said that a 1994 Buick Roadmaster sedan owned by a Trumbull woman was parked unoccupied in the side parking lot of the Super Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street between 2 and 2:57 pm on January 17, when an unknown motorist drove into the Buick, scraping and denting its left rear door.
