A Generous Offer
To the Editor:
I just want to take a moment and publicly thank Sharon and Dan Doherty for allowing me to use their business space of PJâs Laundromat, 110 Church Hill Road, Sandy Hook, to offer a passport acceptance service to the community of Newtown. By the way, I had never met the Dohertys before this generous offer.
I was so disappointed when I was told I could no longer operate out of the municipal building. In my mind, it seemed so natural to offer passports as residents came into our town hall for a number of other reasons. After all it is the core of the town and very amenable to my service. But it was not to be.
However with the help of Shannon Hicks of The Newtown Bee who suggested we let the town know what happened and that I was looking for a space came a wonderful message on my cellphone from Sharon Doherty. She offered her office, which very nicely works to interview people and take their pictures if need be without interrupting her business.
Sharon and Dan are real people in a business that is helpful, clean, and courteous to every person that steps through their doors. It is located in back of the stores on the right side of Church Hill Road the last driveway before the traffic light in the center of Sandy Hook. Personally, I never knew we had a laundromat in town before I was contacted by Sharon. The Dohertys are working with the town boards to construct a sign for their business which will be positioned on Church Hill so people can find them.
I am there for passports on Thursdays and Fridays from 3 to 6 pm and Saturdays from 10 to 1. Or you can reach me by phone 203-770-9157.
When things seem to end with no place to go it is amazing what comes back if you just have faith.Â
Please frequent their business and find excellent laundry services and passport services.
Thank you again the Doherty family, including their two sons Patrick and Joseph, for your generosity.
