James Johnson Mellen

Active In Easton Community

James Johnson Mellen, 72, a lifelong resident of Easton, beloved husband of Laurie Dann Mellen, died peacefully, March 23, at the Masonicare Health Center of Wallingford. He was the son of the late Francis P. Mellen and Doris Ward.

In addition to his wife of 35 years, he leaves three children, including Dwight James Mellen of Newtown; four grandchildren; and a sister.

Mr Mellen retired from Sikorsky Aircraft of Stratford, after many years with Pitney Bowes in Stamford, and US Chrome in Stratford. He was a past master of the Ashlar/Aspetuck Lodge #142 Easton, Corinthian Lodge #104 Fairfield, a member of the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Twilight Club, and the Police Square Club. He was a member emeritus of the Easton Republican Town Committee, served on the Planning & Zoning Board, and as a justice of the peace and constable.

He was an active member of the Congregational Church of Easton, the Easton Historical Society, the Easton Cemetery Committee, and the Easton Senior Center.

Funeral services took place March 28, followed by burial in the family (Ward) plot in Union Cemetery, 850 Sport Hill Road, Easton.
