Warrant Served

Police said that on the afternoon of December 8, they arrested Jocemy Fanfan, 27, of Bridgeport in Darien on a warrant stemming from an original incident that occurred last July in Newtown.

Police arrested Fanfan on charges of second-degree failure to appear in court, driving while under suspension, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to display a marker plate.

Police took Fanfan into custody, processed his rearrest, and then released him on $10,000 bail for an upcoming appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

 In the original incident last July 21, while they were parked near the intersection of Main Street and West Street, police spotted motorist Fanfan driving a vehicle southward on Main Street which had no license plate on it, so they followed him and stopped him to investigate, after which they pressed the original three charges.

Truck Vs Overhang

About 5:45 pm on December 7, trucker Ken Olan, 69, of Alford, Fla., who was driving a 2000 Volvo truck, pulled into the Shell gas station at 67 Church Hill Road because he was experiencing mechanical problems with the vehicle, police said.

But the 13-foot-tall roof on the truck smashed into an 11-foot-high overhang at the gas station, resulting in property damage, police said.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement because the collision occurred on private property.

After the incident, the truck was towed away for repairs of its underlying mechanical problems, police said.

 

High School Arrest

Late on the morning of December 6, police arrested a 17-year-old male student at Newtown High School after he pushed another male student to the ground and then punched him in the head, police report.

Police charged the aggressive student with breach of peace. Following arrest processing, police released the youth on a written promise to appear December 21 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court.

State law conceals the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with criminal offenses.

Bancroft Road

Police said they were dispatched to Bancroft Road in the Riverside section of Sandy Hook about 3 am December 10, after receiving a report that there was a suspicious person in that area.

After going there, police said they found Kenneth Rawls, 25, of New Haven, who had been driving a vehicle there.

After investigating, police charged Rawls with driving while under suspension. Police said they held Rawls on $100 bail for a court appearance later that day.

Firearms Charges

After receiving a complaint in October involving the theft of firearms from a local residence, police investigated the case, assembled evidence and then applied for an arrest warrant.

On December 5, police arrested Pierce Wrabel, 37, of Seymour on a warrant on five counts of theft of a firearm and on two counts of interfering with police.

Police allege that Wrabel entered a home without permission and then stole several handguns from the premises.

Police held Wrabel on $25,000 bail for a December 6 court appearance. Wrabel, who is now free on $15,000 bail, is scheduled to appear in court again on December 17.

Icy Collision

About 6:15 pm December 7, motorist Dawn Escoda, 44, of 38 Old Green Road was driving a 2000 Lincoln LS southward on Walnut Tree Hill Road, near Haley Lane, when she spotted an accident ahead of her and then skidded to a stop on the icy road surface, police said.

Escoda then got out of the Lincoln, police said.

Motorist Geraldine Hilbrich, 50, of Oakville, who was driving a 2005 Chrysler Sebring southward on Walnut Tree Hill Road, then encountered the stopped Lincoln and skidded on the icy pavement, striking the Lincoln, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Hilbrich for traveling too fast for conditions.

Pearl Street

At about 3 am December 8, motorist Glen Radacsi, 41, of 8 Pearl Street was driving a 2004 Honda Accord sedan eastward on Pearl Street, about 500 feet east of Washington Avenue, when the auto went off the right side of the road and struck a ground-mounted electrical transformer, ripping it from its footings, police said. The collision caused a localized power outage. Police said they received a call about the incident more than an hour after it occurred.

After the impact, Radacsi continued driving the vehicle, police said. Police said part of the wreckage from the collision included the auto’s front marker plate, which they used as evidence.

Police later found the vehicle in Danbury and consequently charged Radacsi with evading responsibility and with making a restricted turn. He posted $500 bail for a December 20 court appearance.

Subaru Vs Buick

Police report a two-car accident at the southern intersection of South Main Street and Peck’s Lane about 4:11 pm December 5.

That collision involved motorist Joseph Ceci, Jr, 54, of River Run Road, who was driving a 2002 Subaru station wagon, and motorist Barbara Sperling, 48, of Edgewood Lane, who was driving a 2005 Buick sedan, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported Sperling to Danbury Hospital to be checked for possible neck injuries, police said.

Police said they issued Ceci a written warning for a stop sign violation.

I-84 DUI

State police report that motorist Andrea Reinhardt, 21, of 54 Taunton Lake Road, while driving on eastbound Interstate 84’s Exit 9 off-ramp at about 11 pm December 8, nearly collided with a state trooper who was positioned on the road’s right shoulder.

State police then investigated and charged Reinhardt with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the established lane.

State police released Reinhardt from custody on $500 bail for a December 12 court appearance.

Jeep Spinout

While traveling eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, motorist Vladimir Moraes, 29, of Brighton, Mass., who was driving a 2002 Jeep Cherokee, lost control of the vehicle, went into a spin and then struck the highway’s concrete median divider, police report. Moraes was not injured. The auto was towed from the scene.

Lexus Crash

During wintry conditions about 3:40 pm December 7, motorist Taifa Braddock, 35, of Waterbury was driving a 2000 Lexus GS-300 eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, when the vehicle went out of control and struck some metal-beam guardrailing, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police issued Braddock a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Snowy Highway

In snowy conditions at about 3:20 pm December 7, motorist Jindriska Saghir, 63, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2006 Ford Escape westward on Interstate 84, about one mile west of Exit 10, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Ford was struck from behind by a 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Joan Nolte, 64, of New Fairfield, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police said Nolte was traveling too fast for conditions.

NHS Marijuana

Police said that they responded to a report of a disturbance at Newtown High School about 5:30 pm December 10.

Police said that the high school security staff had detained a 16-year-old boy who had attempted to flee them after the security staff had noticed the smell of marijuana on the boy.

After an investigation, police charged the youth with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana and with breach of peace. Police released the boy on a written promise to appear December 11 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court.

Because the youth is under age 18, state law conceals his identity from public disclosure.

DUI Incident

Police said they responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident near 30 Mt Pleasant Road about 1 am December 11.

Police aid they investigated the circumstances of the accident and then charged the driver, Melissa Gardiner, 27, of 6 Meadow Brook Road, with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and possession of less than four ounces of marijuana.

After posting $100 bail, police released Gardiner for a January 3 court appearance.

Jeep Vs Hyundai

About 5:37 pm December 5, motorist Derek Szmyt, 26, of Lakewood, Wash., who was driving a 2007 Hyundai sedan northward near 97 South Main Street, stopped for some stopped traffic and was then struck from behind by a northbound 1994 Jeep SUV driven by Daria Cummings, 34, of Monroe, police said.

There were no injuries. Cummings received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Paugussett Road

Motorist Penny Volpe, 46, of Crown Hill Road was driving a 1998 Plymouth station wagon southward on Paugussett Road about 5:30 pm December 8, when a deer ran onto the street and collided with the vehicle, police said. Volpe was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Flat Swamp Crash

Motorist Angel Deleg-Chimbo, 41, of Grant, Mich., was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Blazer on a snow-covered Flat Swamp Road, near Jangling Plains Road, about 8 am December 3, when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road and then struck a tree and a fence, police said.

Deleg-Chimbo was not injured. Police issued him an infraction ticket for traveling too fast for conditions.

 

Toyota Vs Ford

Motorist Rodger Sperling, 71, of Edgewood Lane was driving a 2001 Ford pickup truck northward on South Main Street at about 5 pm December 5, and then stopped in the northbound lane to allow a motorist to make a left turn onto the street from a driveway at 97 South Main Street, police said.

Northbound motorist Ziad M. Taweh, 38, of Mt Pleasant Road, who was driving a 2007 Toyota sedan, then struck the Ford from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Taweh a written warning for following too closely.

Vehicular Violations

Police report that on December 5, they issued motorist Ralston Boyd, 54, of Bridgeport four motor vehicle violations. Police said Boyd was traveling too fast for conditions, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without automotive insurance, and was misusing a marker plate.

After posting $250 bail, Boyd was released for a December 19 court appearance.
