Occupation: For 30-plus years I was an electrical engineer at Norton Systems in Norwalk. I majored in electrical engineering, but my second love is the outdoors so I got a degree in forestry as well.

After I took an early retirement four years ago, I started my own landscaping business. It’s strictly word of mouth, but I like to do garden and pond design and as an offshoot, I’ve gotten into nature photography. Now I help judge photo competitions in the area.

How Long In Newtown: We moved to our home on Surrey Trail in 1971, 33 years ago. I’m from Baldwin on the south shore of Long Island, N.Y., and my wife is from the North Shore. We met in Boston.

I remember when Toddy Hill Road was a meandering country road, when Surrey Trail was a dirt road, and when a two-acre building lot in Newtown cost $6,000. Things have sure changed since then.

Family: My wife, Jan, works as an office manager with Advanced Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery medical practice in Danbury. We have two daughters, who both graduated from Newtown High School and are out on their own. Chrissie lives in Stamford, and Kim lives in Boston.

Hobbies: Photography is probably my biggest hobby, along with bow hunting and fishing and anything outdoors related. I’ve become a specialist in water gardening, since we dug a huge pond in our back yard and have filled it with koi fish.

Pets: Abby is our fourth Labrador retriever, and the first chocolate one.

Favorite TV Shows: I like “CSI” and “Law and Order” and “The Sopranos.”

Organizations: I belong to the Newtown Lions Club, the Horticulture Club of Newtown, and the Candlewood Camera Club. It’s a great photography club –– one of the top three in Connecticut in my opinion.

Most Vivid Memory About Newtown: Jan and I share this very vivid memory. It was 1971 and we were moving into our house on a Saturday. Our oldest daughter was born the very next day –– three weeks early.

Favorite Vacation Spot: We like islands –– Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, and St Martin’s for the French restaurants there.

Personal Philosophy: I try to enjoy each day for what it is, and be positive when I get up first thing in the morning. A card I keep in my wallet sums it up for me regarding relationships. It’s called the Serenity Prayer.

God grant me the serenity,

To accept the things I cannot change,

Courage to change the things I can,

And wisdom to know the difference.
