Week’s Worth Of Events To Promote Environmental

Awareness & Preservation Of Open Space

BETHEL — The local environmental group Preservation Advocates for Terre Haute (PATH) has scheduled a whole week’s worth of fun, eco-friendly events to promote open space awareness, responsible growth and sustainable economies. These events begin on Earth Day, April 22, and will continue to Sunday, April 27.

On Tuesday, April 22, PATH will present its 3rd Annual Earth*Nite Benefit. The event will run from 7 to 11 pm at Front Street Fish House, One Front Street in Bethel.

Live music will be performed by Cool Struttin’ (featuring Pam and Howie Bujese), Dave King, The Billy Michael Band, The Larry Deming Folk String Quartet, and The Other People. Admission is $7. For advance tickets, call 778-5253.

On Wednesday, April 23, special benefit screenings of family and environmentally-friendly films will be presented at Bethel Cinema, 269 Greenwood Avenue. The screenings – which begin at 7 pm – will include Dr Seuss’ The Lorax, Jean Jacques Annaud’s The Bear and Ron Frick’s Baraka.

Admission to all three films is $8 for adults, $2 for children. For advance tickets, stop by the box office or call 778-3100.

On Thursday, April 24, a free “Open Mike Poet*Tree Nite” will be presented at Bethel Municipal Center, on School Street. Readings will run from 8 to 10 pm; call 794-8501 for details.

On Friday, April 25, PATH will present “The Funky-Gia Earth*Nite Benefit” at Colorado Brewery in Danbury. Music starts at 8, runs to midnight, and includes performances by Gia and Funkestra, with I-95 DJ Pam Brooks serving as emcee.

Admission is $6 in advance or $7 at the door. The brewery is at 6 Delay Street; call 791-1450 for details.

On Saturday, April 26, the group will host “Earth*Saturday Volunteer Cleanups & Thank You Dinner.” Details are still being coordinated; visit www.ctpath.org for updates.

Sunday’s finalé will be “Sunday Funnies Free-For-All,” an evening of “observant comedy” by WCSU student performers, sketch comedy by MEAT, and a “Demi-MEAT appetizer” by Becky & Noelle. Radio personality Wayne Winsley of WINE/WPUT will host.

This program will run from 7 to 9 pm in WCSU Student Center’s auditorium, at 181 White Street in Danbury. Admission is free but donations will be accepted. Call 837-8211 for details.
