Robert J.    Carroll, Sr

Robert J. Carroll, Sr, 83, retired superintendent of maintenance at St Joseph’s Manor, Trumbull, died February 4 in Danbury Hospital. Mr Carroll was the husband of the late Jeanne (Nolan) Carroll and was a resident of Nunnawauk Meadows, Newtown.

 He was the father of Robert J., Jr, Patrick, Paul, Arthur, and Philip Carroll and JoAnne Chontos, all of Newtown.

Mr Carroll was born in Scranton, Penn., February 7, 1916, son of the late Andrew P. and Anna (Coleman) Carroll. He was an Army staff sergeant during World War II and served in the Battle of the Bulge.

He had been a resident of Newtown since 1964 and was employed at St Joseph’s Manor until his retirement in 1977. Mr Carroll lived at Nunnawauk Meadows since 1978 and was a longtime superintendent of maintenance there until his retirement.  He was a communicant of St Rose of Lima Church.

Mr Carroll is also survived by three other sons, Charles of San Diego, Calif., Andrew of Danbury, and Joseph of Tenants Harbor, Me.; four other daughters, Catherine Boudreau of Trumbull, Mary Wilgus of Tenants Harbor, Me., Margaret Carroll of Uncasville, and Michele DeLisle of New Knoxville, Ohio; three sisters, June Kenney of Alexandria, Va., and Eileen Carroll and Mary Lou Morrissey, both of Stratford; 30 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.  He was pre-deceased by two grandsons, P.J. Carroll and Daniel E. Boudreau.

Funeral services were held February 7 at the Honan Funeral Home, 48 Main Street, Newtown, and in St Rose of Lima Church for a Mass of Christian Burial.  Interment was in St Rose Cemetery.
