With the marching band season now ended, the Newtown Winter Guard program is gearing up for an exciting season. Currently 49 students in grades 5-12 are registered in the program. With the cost of attending the World Guard International Championships increasing to $900 per student on top of the season fees of $825 per person, The Varsity team is set for a season of fundraising, as the cost of the entire program is funded by the individual families who participate, with the exception of school buses used for local competitions.

On Saturday, November 22, the team will host a Holiday Vendor Fair at Newtown United Methodist Church, 92 Church Hill Road.

Proceeds being donated by the various vendors participating, including Suzie Holiday Creations, Tastefully Simple, Premiere Jewelry, Old Dahlia, and others.

The event is from 10 am to 3 pm. Entry to the hall is through the lower level parking lot.

In addition to the vendors, members of the team are looking forward to selling coffee, hot cider and baked goods to those looking to get a jump on their holiday shopping while supporting Newtown’s highly successful Varsity Winter Guard program.

Registration for the Junior Varsity and Juniors  (grades 5-6) is still open to any Newtown boy or girl interested in joining Winter Guard. Practices begin the week of November 25, with the first competition slated for February 7 and culminating in the team’s attendance in Dayton, Ohio.
