Is Anybody Home?

To the Editor:

There are over 240 million Americans that are of voting age in this country. If we look at past presidential elections we can expect less than a 60 percent voter turnout in November. That means over 40 percent of voting age Americans, roughly 100 million, will not participate. Are these 100 million eligible voters incapacitated, don’t give a damn, or have come to the realization that their votes no longer count? Sadly, I think it is a combination of the latter two. The propaganda machines in Washington, both Republican and Democrat, will continue to tell us they have the answers to fix the economy. For a moment let us put aside party politics. On the Republican side we are told that austerity measures which will reduce our national debt will save the economy. On the Democratic side we are told that increased spending (temporary) and taxes on the wealthy will save the economy. I have just one question. How long do we have to wait to see results?

Both parties in Washington have messed up the financial well-being of this country. Both parties have contributed to the demise of this country’s economy. Both parties have had their chance. Washington continues to be a bipolar dysfunctional corrupt enemy to America. Our country continues down the road to a fiscal meltdown. Inflationary tactics are hurting American savers and consumers alike. The amount of wasted tax dollars is an insult to every American. We have had tax cuts since 2002 and the results are greater budget deficits! Our government can’t pay its debt without printing more money and it can’t raise taxes high enough to stop the inevitable. Our elected officials have forgotten that they were put in office to serve the people of this country and not to serve their own interests. How long do we have to wait to see results?

Japan experienced the “lost decade” due to a stock and land market collapse. Washington. Are you there, is anybody home? A large run-up of debt resulting from unproductive stimulus packages and wasteful projects led to economic stagnation. Washington. Are you there, is anybody home? The word Ineptocracy has been around for about ten years. Although it is not an official dictionary word, I believe it should be. Users define Ineptocracy as “A system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.” A simpler user definition that sums it up very well is “a ruling government which is incompetent.” Washington. Are you there, is anybody home?
