Postponements & Cancellations: February 13 & 14
The following events have been cancelled or postponed in anticipation of the winter snow storm approaching the area. Friday's announcements are in response to the storm, and the clean-up efforts in the area.
Announcements are listed in descending order of receipt.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 14
*Newtown Municipal Center will open at 10 am today.
*All locations of Union Savings Bank will open at 10 am, according to Marie O'Neill, EVP Chief Marketing Officer of Union Savings Bank
*Newtown Public Schools will remain closed today, due to the weather.
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 13
*Due to the weather conditions, Union Savings Bank will be closed on Thursday.
*Newtown Municipal Center will have a delayed opening, until at least 10 am, Thursday morning.
*Classes are cancelled for Newtown Public Schools on Thursday.
*The Outreach meeting scheduled for February 13 at Newtown United Methodist Church has been postponed to Friday, February 14, at 10 am.
If school is cancelled on Friday, the meeting will be cancelled too; call 203-270-3960 or 203-270-1794 for additional information.
Also, Senior Choir rehearsal on Thursday has been cancelled.
*Thursday’s special town meeting has been postponed.a proposed sewer extension into Hawleyville to discuss and vote on
The Board of Selectmen will decide the new meeting date during their already scheduled meeting on February 18.
Also, Thursday evening’s 12/14 Permanent Memorial Commission meeting has been cancelled.
*Bethel VNA is canceling Thursday’s blood pressure screenings at Newtown Senior Center due to the expected storm, according to Bethel VNA Community Program Coordinator Krista Stringer, RN.
*The American Red Cross Infant, Children & Adult CPR Certification class scheduled for Thursday, February 13, at Newtown Youth & Family Services has been postponed to Thursday, February 20. It will still run from 6 to 8 pm.
Those who registered for the original date will automatically be registered for the new date. Contact NYFS, 203-270-4335, if unable to attend the new date or to register for the new session.
*Thursday night’s LLS Team in Training session scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Dunkin Donuts has been cancelled.
The meeting was to introduce local residents to the fundraising program of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society which allows people to train for and participate in athletic events to raise funds for the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancers.
According to a spokesperson from LLS, the Newtown event will not be rescheduled but there are additional Team In Training info sessions planned in the region.
