An Act of Kindness By B. Jane Brymer
To the Editor:
Friday morning, November 25, around 11:30 am, I received a phone call from a gentleman at Alice's Flower Shop in Bethel asking me if someone would be home at our house to receive a flower delivery. I answered "Yes, for the next couple of hours." When we hung up I told Roy about the phone call, and we could not guess who would be sending us flowers on the day after Thanksgiving, as it was not a special occasion for either of us.
Around 3 pm, no flowers had arrived and I needed to run some errands, so I called the Alice's Flower Shop phone number on our caller ID. A nice woman answered and I told her that I was leaving the house but was curious as to what happen to the flowers that were supposed to be delivered. She asked my name and then told me there was no delivery scheduled for me, and then asked my address and she checked that and said she had no flower delivery for that address. Finally she asked my phone number and she replied, "Oh the delivery for that phone number was for the Simpsons on Pecks Lane and the delivery had already been made." Disappointed, I said, "I guess that means I am not receiving any flowers today," but quickly recovered and said, "That is OK; I did not mean to make you feel bad." She apologized for the mix-up and we hung up.
Saturday night when we returned home from dinner, there was a small bouquet of flowers sitting at our garage door. On the card was written "From Alice's Flower Shop." I thought this was such a nice touch on their part to apologize for their mistake that I wanted to share this story with you.
