The Newtown Babe Ruth 10-year-old All Star baseball team might not have won any tournament championships, but it had a pretty successful summer season nevertheless.
Under the guidance of long-time coach Ray Craven, the All Stars took third at the Bethel Jimmy Fund Tournament, were 2-2 in the Babe Ruth District Tournament, took third place at the Southbury Tournament, and earned a second-place trophy in the New Britain Tournament.
The team played 27 games during the summer and were 13-7 in tournament play. Jake Devellis led the team with a hefty .466 batting average, banging out 29 hits and scored 29 runs. Maxwell Muraskiewicz collected 27 hits of his own and drove in 20 runs. Charlie LoBosco led the team with 20 RBI while Robert Brautigam batted at a .436 clip.
Chris Marks, Mickey Fay, LoBosco, Ricky Gallucci and Muraskiewicz all hit over .350 for the summer.
Kyle McNamara and Matt Mascolo both chipped in with game-winning hits. Kurt Nacewitz led the team in steals while Nick Saviano led the team in walks.
Brett LeBlanc and Andrew Miesel were both solid, all-around players during the summer.
