Lenard Gustuv Carlson
Lenard Gustuv Carlson, 92, of Newtown, died June 30, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Yonkers, N.Y., February 7, 1920, to Rosa Johnson and Erik Carlson.
He is the father of Eric Carlson of Newtown, Richard Carlson of Guildhall, Vt., Karleen Carlson-Ponto of Castleton, Vt., and Jeannine Carlson of Naugatuck. Fourteen loving grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a loyal dog survive Mr Carlson.
Mr Carlson served in the United States Army during World War II as a radar operator, during the Central Pacific Tour.
He was the devoted husband to his wife of 60 years, Margaret, now deceased. Their marriage was built on fun and the unexpected from the start. They met when Margaret spotted him on the street and she leaned out the window yelling, âHubba-Hubba!â to him, and the rest is history.
Mr Carlson enjoyed gardening, vacationing, and spending time with family and friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a calm demeanor, which made everyone around him relaxed.
He was a past master of the Eurika Lodge of Free Masons in Bethel, and retired from Heise/Dresser after many years of service as a machinist foreman.
A memorial service will take place at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Saturday, July 14, at noon, with interment to follow at The Newtown Village Cemetery.
