State Slates Public Info Meeting On Fairfield Hills Uses
Newtown residents will be asked to comment on the recommendations of a state
study of possible uses for the Fairfield Hills campus at an informational
meeting on Thursday, May 28, at 7:30 pm in the Newtown Middle School
auditorium.
Richard Nuclo, director of assets management for the state Office of Policy
and Management (OPM), said this week that the firm hired by the state to study
possible uses for the land and buildings has prepared some preliminary
conclusions. The purpose of the public information meeting is to solicit
public comments on those conclusions.
The public will not have the opportunity to review the report prepared for the
state by Arthur Andersen Consulting ahead of time, according to Mr Nuclo. "We
are going to hand out packets of information that night and try to explain
what we're doing," he said. "We want to lay out a process to take us from
where we are to where we want to be."
Mr Nuclo said the preliminary recommendations in the Andersen report would not
contain any "big surprises" for those who have been following the issue in
recent months. He suggested that the recommendations are compatible with the
now-defunct Fairfield Hill Task Force recommendations, which layed out a plan
to keep much of the Fairfield Hills property as open space.
The preliminary recommendations will not unveil a single grand plan for the
campus, according to Mr Nuclo, but rather will present a range of seven
options, including "a lot of uses that have been talked about," he said.
