Leonard Douglas Boyd, Sr

Leonard Douglas Boyd, Sr, 73, of Stratford, died November 12 at Ashlar Health Care of Newtown.

Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Douglas and Charlotte Gove Boyd. He retired from the Department of Correction for the State of Connecticut. After retirement, he owned and operated Marine Security Inc. He also was an employee of the Connecticut Post. Mr Boyd was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Marines. He was past master of the Daytime Lodge #144, a member of St John Lodge #8, the Azalea Chapter of the Eastern Star, the Amaranth Court #21, and the Pyramid Shrine. He was also a life member of the VFW Trumbull Post 10059.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Evelyn Benco Boyd; one son, Leonard D. Boyd, Jr, and his wife Colleen, of Stratford; the mother of his children, Dorothy Deschamps Boyd of Fairfield; two grandchildren, Damon P. Boyd and Michael P. Boyd; one niece, Laura Burdick; and one nephew, Jeffrey Balko. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Robert Benco and his wife, Jean, of Orange, and nieces, Donna Chervenak and Debbie Garcia. He was predeceased by his daughter, Dawn Marie Boyd; and his sister Marion Balko.

Funeral services were held November 15 in the Dennis & D’Arcy Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford. Memorial donations can be made to the Masonic Home, 22 Masonic Avenue, Wallingford, CT 06492.
