Picks Up Two Wins

The Newtown Storm 11U travel baseball team picked up two wins last week, improving its overall record to 7-6-1. The Storm defeated Shepaug 14-11 and followed that victory with a 8-1 win over New Fairfield.

Against Shepaug the big hits were a two-out bases-clearing double by Ryan Mailloux in the third inning and a deep two-RBI triple from Jack Hannan. Hannan’s triple was part of a six-run Storm explosion in the sixth inning to come back from three runs down.

Ryan William and Bobby Ward each had three hits, Tim Davis added two hits and Mailloux finished two-for-three with four RBI. Dillon Larkin pitched three solid innings while Matt Brantl and Doug Carriero made strong plays on defense.

The Storm pitching led the way in the win over New Fairfield. The pitching of Jeremy Larkin, Dillon Larkin, Matt Sadowski, Jack Heinlein, and Mailloux allowed only four New Fairfield hits. Dillon Larkin had three hits, including a double, while Williams, Heinlein, and Mailloux each contributed two hits. Jackson Dooley played well at second base and Carriero, Williams, and Brantl were outstanding behind the plate.
