Boys 6th

Newtown 48, Ridgefield 34 – Kyle Wilcox canned eight points and Erik Samuelson added six and both were strong off the glass as Newtown wrapped up the regular season with a win. Mason West and Will Fletcher lead the defensive effort. Kevin LeBlanc and Josh Barrett directed plays as Newtown capitalized on turnovers, allowing Taylor Steimle (11points) and Dan Gallagher (9 points) to drive the lanes and lead the offense. Anthony Berarducci and Austin Bonadio also made useful contributions and combined for 12 points. The team heads into the play-offs with positive momentum. 

Boys 5th

Wilton 54, Newtown 45 – The Hawks’ six game winning streak came to an end against a tough and tall Wilton team. Reid Schmidt (8 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals), Conner Quinn (8 points, 4 rebounds) and Gavin Scallon (8 points, 8 rebounds) shared high scoring honors for Newtown. David Gerics turned in a great all around game with six points, six steals and seven rebounds. Sam Ashey (5 points and a monster block) and Pieter Martino were both strong at center for the Hawks, while Sean Elliott, Nick Gerbo and Jake Feinstein were relentless on defense, combining for eight steals.

Newtown 26, Fairfield Celtics 23 – Nick Gerbo led the Hawks in this low scoring contest with 11 points and five rebounds. Gavin Scallon had a huge game at center, scoring seven points and hauling down 13 rebounds. Dan Hebert turned in another outstanding game at the point with five points and nine steals. Wyatt DePuy was strong at power forward, ripping down four rebounds and contributing two steals.

Newtown 46, Fairfield Knicks 18 – Newtown started a new winning streak with this well-balanced team effort. Gavin Scallon (10 points, 4 rebounds) and David Gerics (10 steals) led the Hawks on offense and defense respectively and guard Jake Feinstein turned in a great all around effort with four points, three rebounds and two steals. Smooth shooting Sean Elliott contributed five points and two steals and Dan Hebert tossed in six points and dished off three assists to lead the Hawks in the backcourt. Conner Quinn (9 points, 3 assists), Sam Ashey (4 points, 3 rebounds) and Reid Schmidt (4 points, 3 steals, 6 rebounds) all had solid games for the Hawks.

Intermediate Girls

Da Bears 27, Orange Crush 11 – Kristy Papaj and Jessica Gibbons combined for 15 points as Da Bears remained undefeated. Shannon O’Gorman made four steals and Catherine Salaris grabbed six rebounds. For the Crush, Maddie Keane canned four points, Katie McManus dished off four assists and Ellyn Gordon, Ashley Cirone and Courtney Escoda played well.

Gaels 22, Huskies 17 – Keri Chernoff popped in eight points to lead the Gaels to the win. Mary Kay Blawie dished off four assists, Caitlin Gibney made four steals and Lauren Meyer grabbed six rebounds. For the Huskies, Lexi Black scored 10 points while Ali Kennedy ripped down eight boards. Shannon DiLorio (3 assists) and Morgan Cutolo (4 steals) had solid floor games.

Regulators 22, Gaels 12 – Stephanie Perrotti and Alexa Powell combined for 12 points and led the Regulators to the win. Kiely Kuligowski made four steals and Michaela Beaudry grabbed seven rebounds. For the Gaels, Keri Chernoff dropped in six points as Courtney Tenney (4 assists), Elizabeth Eiseman (3 steals) and Mary Kay Blawie (4 rebounds) played well.

Liberty 27, Knicks 18 – Kiersten Lynch and Katie Fossum tossed in seven points apiece to lift the Liberty past the Knicks. Sara Rose Hasselberger made five steals. For the Knicks, Nicole and Melanie Rotante combined for 14 points as Ali Monaco made six steals and Kristen DeGirolamo blocked three shots.

Bantam Girls

Mighty Chicks 18, Lady Vols 8 – Mary Joe Rossi canned 12 points as the Chicks popped the Vols. Jessie Principi, Morgan Macchiarulo, Carly Sullivan and Emily Grimes all had solid floor games. For the Vols, Carly Ferris, Callie Furphy, Shaina Stamp and Daisy Young played well.

Liberty 20, Lady Vols 3 – Hope McMorran popped in eight points to lead the Liberty to the win. For the Vols, Carly Ferris scored three points as Daisy Young and Megan Regan played well.

Wildcats 32, Huskies 12 – Cassie canned 18 points as the Wildcats rolled past the Huskies. Anna Northrop, Lindsey Jagoe and Jaclyn Daily played well. For the Huskies, Jenny Indelicato scored six points and Rachel Maguire added two.
