Victoria C. Panettiere

Loving Mother, Grandmother, And Aunt

Victoria C. Panettiere, 91, mother of Vicki Bassett of Newtown, died December 16, at her home. Mrs Panettiere was the devoted wife for 64 years of the late James A. Panettiere. She was born in New York City on August 31, 1916.

Mrs Panettiere is survived by her children, Victoria Bassett and her husband, Robert, of Newtown, Vincent Panettiere and his wife, Beverly, of Norfolk, Mass., and James Panettiere, Jr, and his wife, Rosemary, of Somers, N.Y.; her loving grandchildren, Vincent Panettiere, Jr, James Panettiere, Leigh Panettiere and her husband, Christopher Mirra, Dr Robert Bassett, Christopher Bassett and his wife Laurel, and Lisa Marie Panettiere; and one great-grandchild, Sam Panettiere Mirra. She is also survived by a niece, Susan Barry and her husband, Walter; and nieces, Kristen and Marie Barry; and many other loving nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Mrs Panettiere was a graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School and the Julliard School of Music where she was trained as a concert pianist. A longtime resident of Yonkers, N.Y., she was active in Yonkers politics and was an active volunteer for the PTA.

Mrs Panettiere was a consummate and loving mother, aunt, and grandmother. She was an avid basketball and baseball fan, especially the Yankees. She was feted at Yankee Stadium.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am Friday, December 21, in St Rose of Lima Church. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, N.Y. Calling hours were scheduled at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Thursday, December 20, from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm.

The family wishes to thank with loving gratitude Dr Jennifer Holloway; the EMTs and paramedics of Newtown Ambulance; their mother’s second family of devoted caregivers, Ana Lage, Amelia Afonzo, and Lucy Santos; and finally, the caring and supporting staff of Regional Hospice.
