DUI Arrest
Police report that at about 12:32 am October 3, they spotted motorist Edward Browning, 49, of 33 Greenbriar Lane crossing over the streetâs center lines on South Main Street, near Greenbriar Lane, so they stopped him to investigate.
Police said they charged Browning with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.
After processing the case at the police station, police released Browning on $200 bail for an October 22 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
BMW Vs Mitsubishi
Motorist Joemarie Wendel, 59, of Southbury, who was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero SUV, was traveling eastward on Church Hill Road in the right-turn-only lane for the Exit 10 on-ramp of Interstate 84 at about 4:29 pm September 29, when motorist Melania Fitzgerald, 17, of 17 Equestrian Ridge Road, who was driving a 2004 BMW 3-series sedan, was attempting to make a left turn from 58 Church Hill Road onto westbound Church Hill Road, police report.
The two vehicles then collided head-on, police said. There were no injuries. Police gave Fitzgerald a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
Truck Crash
Police report they received a call about 12:26 am on October 2 from a person concerning a motor vehicle accident that had occurred near the four-way intersection of Great Hill Road, Taunton Hill Road, and Plumtrees Road, after which they went there to investigate.
On arriving at the scene, police said they found an abandoned 2004 Ford F-350 pickup truck parked on Great Hill Road which had been involved in a one-vehicle accident. An investigation determined that the truck had collided with several boulders in a residential yard, according to police.
Police said that Aaron Lengel, 18, of 32 West Street apparently had been driving the truck when the collision occurred. The incident remains under investigation, police said.

Spinout
Motorist Gessi Goncalves, 42, of Fairfield was driving a 1996 Ford Taurus station wagon southward on Pine Tree Hill Road, near Winton Farm Road, about 9:21 am on October 1, when the vehicle went out of control while traveling on a curve and then spun off the road, police aid.
Goncalves was not injured. Goncalves received an infraction for driving without a license, police said.
Main Street Crash
A two-vehicle accident occurred at the hazardous intersection of Main Street, West Street, and Church Hill Road about 8:51 am October 1.
Motorist Veronica Barnes, 79, of Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., who was driving a 2005 Saab 92-X sedan, stopped at a stop on westbound Church Hill Road and then proceeded across Main Street in seeking to reach West Street, police said.
At that time, motorist Luz Marina Roman, 49, of Danbury, who was driving a 2005 Saturn Vue SUV, was heading southward on Main Street, police said.
The Saturn swerved to avoid a collision, but the two vehicles made impact, police said. There were no injuries. Police gave Barnes written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
DUI Charge
Police report that at about 10:14 pm on October 1, they saw motorist Sandra Ballard, 47, of Danbury driving erratically on Mt Pleasant Road, so they stopped her to investigate.
Police said they charged Ballard with driving under the influence, driving while under suspension, and with failure to drive to the right.
After processing, police released Ballard from custody on $150 bail for an October 16 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Gas Station
At about 10:30 am October 3, motorist Marguerite Eldridge, 86, of 20 Sunnyview Terrace, who was driving a 1995 Buick Skylark sedan at the Gas Stop gas station at 47 Church Hill Road, backed into an unoccupied 2004 GMC Envoy SUV there, police said.
There were no injuries. After investigating the collision, police charged Eldridge with driving with a suspended license. Police released her on a written promise to appear October 23 in Danbury Superior Court.

South Main Crash
About 4:52 pm October 3, motorist Jane Stadler, 64, of 31 Taunton Lane, who was driving a 2001 Audi A-6 station wagon northward near 63 South Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by northbound motorist Alan Ritchie, 17, of 3 Bradley Lane, who was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala sedan, according to police.
There were no injuries. Police issued Ritchie an infraction for following too closely.
Chevrolet Hits Audi
About 7:51 am October 3 on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, motorist Geoffrey Dent, 60, of 10 Country Squire Road, who was driving a 2001 Audi A-6, slowed due to heavy traffic conditions and was struck from behind motorist Christina Baker, 24, of Oakville, who was driving a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck, state police said. There were no injuries, according to state police.
Highway Rollover
State police report that at about 7:39 am on October 1, motorist Rahmeen Hightower, 27, of Portsmouth, Va., who was driving a 1996 Oldsmobile Aurora eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, took some evasive action to avoid a collision with an unknown tractor-trailer truck, but in doing so, the Oldsmobile spun out of control and rolled over, coming to rest on the roadâs median divider.
Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members transported Hightower to Danbury Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries, state police said. Hawleyville firefighters responded to the accident.
Jeremiah Road
Motorist Kenneth Good, 43, of 52 Charter Ridge Drive was driving a 2006 Nissan Titan pickup truck westward on Jeremiah Road about 7:34 am October 2, when he stopped for traffic conditions, police said.
Westbound motorist Jorge Raigoza, 18, of 6 Lakeview Terrace, who was driving a 2007 Nissan Versa sedan, then struck the truck from behind, police said.
Ambulance volunteers checked Raigoza at the scene, police said. Police issued Raigoza a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Honda Vs Mitsubishi
Police report a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Boggs Hill Road and Sugar Street about 12:08 pm October 5.
Motorist Eileen Valenti, 68, of Bethel, who was driving a 2008 Honda CRV, stopped at the stop sign on northbound Boggs Hill Road, police said.
The Honda then attempted to make a left turn onto westbound Sugar Street, but collided with motorist James Bernier, 43, of 83 Sugar Street, who was driving a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant sedan eastward on Sugar Street, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued Valenti a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
Package Store
Police received a call from an alarm company about 4 am October 8, alerting them of a possible intrusion by forcible entry underway at Sandy Hook Wine & Liquor at 102 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center.
Police went to the scene to investigate and found that someone had broken the rear glass door of the business but that no entry had been made.
Police are investigating the incident and ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact Officer Matthew Wood at the police station at 426-5841.
Probation Charge
About 2 pm October 8, Newtown police learned that Milford police had in custody Lara Kohutka, 37, of Bridgeport, for whom Newtown police held an outstanding arrest warrant.
Newtown police went to Milford and retrieved Kohutka, charging her with violation of probation, police said.
The case originated with a 2007 incident. Police said they released Kohutka from custody on $15,000 bail for an October 22 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
