DANBURY – Sport & Wellness At Danbury (formerly Beaver Brook Tennis Club), has announced the launch of F.A.S.T. kids soccer clinics, beginning the week of Monday, November 19, at the popular tennis and sports facility.

F.A.S.T. – which stands for “fitness-agility-speed-training” –  is geared toward youth soccer players of all ages and abilities to further develop their sport-specific fitness and skill levels during the winter off season.

An Open House will be held Sunday, November 11, from 3 to 5 pm, at Sport & Wellness in Danbury. This special public event is free and open to all youth soccer players and their families. Local youth soccer clubs throughout Fairfield and Litchfield Counties whose programs include beginner or intramural or travel team play are encouraged to participate.

Open House festivities kick-off with continuous, non-stop mini-demonstration clinics where all soccer players will take part in a ‘sneak preview’ of the F.A.S.T multi-sports fitness and training program. Conducted on acrylic-cushioned indoor courts, all youth players are requested to wear sneakers and comfortable athletic attire.

As a special treat for all soccer fans, the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer, in partnership with Adidas, will be giving away official team merchandise and/or prizes to aspiring young soccer stars who participate in the on-court F.A.S.T. Open House demo clinics. Red Bull player appearances and 2008 season ticket and merchandise giveaways will be offered throughout the two 10-week, indoor clinic sessions.

Each Open House demo clinic, in addition to the regular 10-week clinic program sessions, will be directed by a staff of certified fitness, tennis and soccer instructors who focus their core curriculum on the soccer player’s need for good footwork, excellent agility, speed (acceleration and deceleration) and quickness.

F.A.S.T. incorporates these four skill sets into a structured fitness and training program that consists of sport-specific stretching exercises, drills, circuit training, instruction, and games of skill. The goal of F.A.S.T. is to provide each participant with a measurable, results-oriented program that increases their fitness level while enhancing their soccer training and skills development.

Lex Kessler, owner/operator of Sport & Wellness and a longstanding youth soccer coach, said, “We created F.A.S.T. with one purpose in mind – to provide youth soccer players with a new and different program that is complimentary to their traditional outdoor soccer regimen. We want to return them in the spring as better fit players.”

Sport & Wellness at Danbury, located on Starr Road in Danbury, plans to conduct several F.A.S.T. winter clinic sessions beginning the week of Monday, November 19, and on through April 13, 2008.
