Robert J. McGuire
Courageous And Loving
Robert J. McGuire, 82, a resident of Newtown for 36 years, died August 8, after a lengthy, courageous battle for life. Mr McGuire was born in Brooklyn, July 25, 1927, to Florence and Robert McGuire. He was the devoted husband of his wife of 56 years, Jane (Lanigan) McGuire.
He was also the proud father of his daughter Ellen McGuire, and sons Robert and John McGuire. He loved and welcomed Johnâs wife, Vanessa (Brakhan) McGuire, into the family and was thrilled to become a late-in-life grandfather.
He was a decorated World War II veteran, having served in the Navy.
He graduated from St Johnâs University in New York with a degree in business. After college, Mr McGuire served as a Special Agent with the FBI. He then joined Union Camp Corporation in sales. He moved his family to Newtown in 1973, where he served as the vice president and general manager of Allied Container Corporation, a subsidiary of Union Camp. After retirement, Bob went to work for Phototronics Inc in Brookfield.
Mr McGuire loved his family and home and took great pleasure in dining out and preparing gourmet meals. He was an avid Yankees fan, loved crossword puzzles, and mystery novels. His courage and tenacity were greatly admired by his family, who will miss him tremendously.
