DUI Arrest

After receiving a complaint about erratic driving at about 9:20 pm on July 5, police said they stopped motorist Stuart Hubbard, 49, of 55 Currituck Road near 83 South Main Street to investigate.

After their probe, police said they charged Hubbard with driving under the influence, possession of narcotics, and driving with the intent to harass or intimidate.

After processing, police released Hubbard on $100 bail for a July 19 arraignment on the charges at Danbury Superior Court.

Marlin Road

Sometime overnight on July 6–7, someone who was driving northward on Marlin Road drove off the right side of the street and across the lawn at 25 Marlin Road, damaging it, police said. The driver then left the scene of the incident. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Sandy Hook Center

Police report that motorist Beth McCleary, 39, of 35 Philo Curtis Road was driving a 2009 Merceedes-Benz ML-350 SUV westward near 113 Church Hill Road at about 7:40 am on July 6. The Mercedes was traveling behind westbound motorist Andrew Degenhardt, 21, of 32 Engleside Terrace, who was driving a 1999 Jeep Cherokee SUV, police said.

Westbound traffic then stopped moving due to a pedestrian in the area, resulting in the Mercedes striking the Jeep from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued McCleary a written warning for following too closely.

Wasserman Way

Police report a two-car accident on westbound Wasserman Way near the Exit 11 interchange of Interstate 84 about 6:34 am July 6.

Police said westbound motorist Leonard Curry, 41, of Hamden was driving a 2000 Volvo S-40 sedan and was preparing to make a left turn onto the Exit 11 on-ramp behind westbound motorist Donald Zaleta, 38, of Danbury, who was driving a 2008 Subaru Impreza sedan and who also was planning to make a left turn onto the ramp.

However, the Subaru stopped due to traffic conditions, police said. The Volvo attempted to avoid contact, but the Volvo struck the Subaru from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Curry a written warning for following too closely.

Trespassing

Police said that on July 3, Peter McBride, 34, of Shelton was found on private property at 2 Button Shop Road and was warned not to return there.

However, on the evening of July 4, McBride was determined to be trespassing while seeking to retrieve items that he had left at 2 Button Shop Road on the previous day, according to police.

Police said they issued McBride an infraction ticket for simple trespassing. The violation carries a fine. It is appealable in court.

Home Improvement

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Edward Watts, 40, of New Fairfield went to the police station on the night of July 7 and was charged with making home improvements without a state certificate of registration, police said.

Police said they processed the arrest warrant against Watts, which stemmed from an investigation conducted by the state Department of Consumer Protection.

Police released Watts on $100 bail for a July 21 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Yellow Kayak

On July 9, police said that a yellow kayak had been found in the Taunton Lake area. Police ask the owner of the kayak to contact them to claim the small boat. Officer Scott Ruszczyk is the investigating officer. He may be reached at the police station at 3 Main Street (Route 25) at 203-426-5841.

Intersection Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Hanover Road and Boulevard Extension about 12:41 pm July 9.

Motorist Mariusz Wnuk, 50, of Cheshire, who was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, stopped at a stop sign at the end of Hanover Road, as motorist Susan Oderwald, 46, of 76 Hanover Road was driving a 2000 Ford Focus station wagon southward on Hanover Road, police said.

The Jeep then entered the intersection, resulting in a collision, according to police.

There were no injuries. Wnuk received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign, police report.

Hawleyville Mishap

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Hawleyville Road (Route 25) near Exit 9 of Interstate 84 about 4:45 pm on July 2.

Motorist Stacie Brown, 39, of Mount Laurel, N.J., who was driving a 2003 Honda Odyssey minivan carrying four passengers, was driving behind a 2011 BMW X-5 SUV driven by Jennifer Wayn-Weitz, 40, of Southbury, which was carrying one passenger, police report. The Honda then hit the BMW from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Brown an infraction for following too closely and for failure to carry a current automotive insurance identification card.

Pine Street

About 5:53 pm on July 8, motorist Theresa Gzrardot, 49, of New Milford was driving a 2008 Saturn Outlook SUV northward on Pine Street, near its intersection with Buttonball Drive, when she became distracted, drove off the right side of the street and hit a stone wall, police report.

Gzrardot was not injured. Police said they verbally warned her for failure to stay in the travel lane.

I-84 Incident

Motorist Jason Herman, 20, of Wilton was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta westward on Interstate 84, just west of the Exit 9 off-ramp, at about 12:15 am on July 10, when while traveling in the left lane of two lanes, the Volkswagen struck a large black tarp lying on the roadway, state police said. Herman was not injured.

Highway Deer

Motorist Daniel McMillan, 56, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2008 Dodge Caliber on the Exit 11 on-ramp of Interstate 84 about 9:17 am July 9, was negotiating a curve on the ramp, when he swerved to the right to avoid a deer on the road, but collided with some guardrailing, state police said. McMillan was not injured.

Moving Violations

Police said that while on patrol about 12:14 pm on July 10, they spotted motorist James Bullock, Jr, 30, of New Haven traveling on Pole Bridge Road in Sandy Hook without a front marker plate on the Dodge Caliber hatchback that he was driving, so they stopped him to investigate near 5 Pole Bridge Road.

Police said that the probe resulted in Bullock being charged with driving a vehicle without a front marker plate and driving with a suspended license. Police released Bullock on a written promise to appear in court on July 21.

Two Charges

Police said they stopped motorist Aminto Zuniga, 64, of Derby about 9:48 pm on July 11 near 305 South Main Street to investigate.

Police said they charged Zuniga with making a restricted turn and with driving with a suspended license. Police released him on $100 bail for a July 26 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Sandy Hook

Police report that motorist Margaret Davis, 57, of Bethel was driving a 1996 Geo Tracker SUV eastward on Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center behind an eastbound 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Michael Delucia, 50, of Shelton at about 5:50 pm on July 12.

The Chevrolet then started to make a right turn into the driveway at 100 Church Hill Road, but the Geo was unable to stop in time and struck the Chevrolet from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Davis received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Berkshire Crash

About 10 am on July 11, motorist Maria Straub, 67, of Hamden was driving a 2004 Subaru Legacy station wagon eastward near 307 Berkshire Road (Route 34), when the vehicle drifted to the right, went off the road and struck a tree, police said.

Straub was not injured. Police said they verbally warned her for making a restricted turn.
