Window Damage
Sometime between 6:30 pm July 3 and 7:30 am July 5, someone damaged two windows at South Main View Deli at 329-A South Main Street, according to police.
One of the windows was damaged by a small projectile, which may have been a BB, a pellet from a pellet gun, a slingshot round, or a slug from a small caliber gun, police said.
Police are investigating the vandalism and ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them at 426-5841.
Parking Lot
A 2004 Lexus GX-470 sport-utility vehicle driven by Barbara Rodia, 68, of 20 Palestine Road was struck by an unknown vehicle, causing damage to the Lexusâs rear bumper at about noon on July 3 in the parking lot at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street, police said.
There were no injuries. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the matter to contact them.
Kia Vs Deer
About 5 am July 5, motorist Christopher Giordano, 41, of Stratford, who was driving a 2000 Kia Sephia eastward near 195 Berkshire Road, encountered a deer that had run onto the road, police said. The Kia and the deer collided. Giordano was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Church Hill Road
Police said that while on patrol about 8 pm July 8, they spotted motorist Yvon Michaud, 31, of Woodbury driving westward on Church Hill Road in a 1994 Honda Civic without a front marker plate.
Michaud was stopped, after which police lodged charges of failure to display a marker plate and driving with a suspended vehicle registration. Michaud was released on a written promise to appear in court July 28.
Toyota Vs Pontiac
Police report a two-car accident at the four-way intersection of Hanover Road and Hall Lane about 7:10 pm July 8.
Motorist Todd Maxwell Reed, 19, of 8 Bankside Trail was driving a 1989 Toyota Camry sedan eastward on Hall Lane, as motorist Robert Tibbetts, 58, of 3 Yearling Lane was driving a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am sedan southward on Hanover Road, police said.
The Toyota did not make a complete stop at a stop sign, as Reed was attempting to cross Hanover Road to continue eastward on another section of Hall Lane, police said.
The Toyota and the Pontiac collided in the intersection.
There were no injuries. Police issued Reed an infraction ticket for failure to obey a stop sign.
No Response
On the night of July 7, police executed an arrest warrant against Elisha Brigham, 24, of Monroe, lodging charges of failure to respond to an infraction and simple trespassing.
Bridgeport Correctional Institution staff members had informed Newtown police that they had Brigham in custody, after which Newtown police went to Bridgeport to serve the warrant.
Brigham had been issued an infraction ticket on a charge of simple trespassing on August 27, 2005, but did not respond to that ticket, police said. The ticket carries a $92 fine.
Police released Brigham on $92 bail for a July 25 court appearance.
SUV Damaged
State police said motorist Thomas Mensi, 55, of Avon was driving a 2006 Ford Explorer westward on Interstate 84, in the vicinity of Exits 10/11, about 4:35 pm July 9, when the front end of the Ford was struck by an unknown object, causing hood damage to the vehicle. Mensi was not injured.
Hummer Vs Honda
About 4:30 pm July 6, motorist Nicolas Rivera, 44, of Hollywood, Fla., who was driving 1995 Honda Accord eastward on Interstate 84, about 4,000 feet west of Exit 10, slowed for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by motorist Nicholas Moniodes, 41, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2006 Hummer H-2 sport-utility vehicle, state police said.
Rivera told state police he experienced neck pain. State police warned Moniodes for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Spot Check
Police said they conducted a spot check on Queen Street, near Newtown Middle School, on the night of July 7 to check for motor vehicle violations such as failure to have a front marker plate and failure to use seatbelts.
Police said they stopped motorist Greg Mead, 19, of Southbury for driving without a front marker plate, after which they issued him a written warning for possession of alcohol by a minor in a motor vehicle.
Police said they found several cans of beer in a backpack in the vehicle. Police seized the beer as evidence and referred Mead to the state Department of Motor Vehicles for an administrative review of the incident.
Ford Vs Deer
Motorist James Page, 19, of 1 Surrey Trail, who was driving a 2003 Ford Mustang northward on Toddy Hill Road, near Settlers Lane, about 10 pm July 7, when he encountered a deer on the road, after which the auto and deer collided, police said. Police took no enforcement.
Three-Car Crash
Police report a three-car accident at the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Taunton Lane about 6:30 pm July 7.
The accident involved motorist Justin Curtis, 18, of Great Falls, Mont.,, who was driving a 1995 Ford Contour sedan; motorist Michael Smith, 36, of Trumbull, who was driving a 1997 Honda Accord sedan, and motorist Margaret Gleissner, 42, of Bethel, who was driving a 2004 Volvo XC-90 station wagon, police said.
James Wichman, 78, of 38 Taunton Ridge Road, who was a passenger in the Volvo, received injuries in the crash and was transported to Danbury Hospital, police said.
Hawleyville firefighters went to the accident. Police said Curtis was following too closely.
Nissan Vs Nissan
About 4:30 pm July 8, motorist John Roberto, 59, of Monroe, who was driving a 2006 Nissan Altima on Mt Pleasant Road, near Tory Lane, stopped behind a stopped noncontact vehicle which was signaling and waiting to turn left, police said.
Motorist Stephanie Logan, 20, of 185 Brushy Hill Road, who was driving a 2004 Nissan Maxima sedan, then struck the Altima from behind, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued Logan a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
DUI Arrest
Police report they saw motorist Patrick Chemero, Jr, 62, of New Milford drive over the center line of South Main Street twice about 12:45 am July 12, so they stropped him to investigate.
After field sobriety testing, police charged Chemero with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.
After he posted $50 bail, police released Chemero for an August 1 court appearance.
DUI Rollover
Police said motorist Brian McLaughlin, 19, of 11 Reservoir Road, who was driving a 1997 Plymouth Voyager minivan about 1:25 am July 12, turned from Church Hill Road onto northbound Edmond Road and then drifted off the right road shoulder, striking several large boulders in sequence, after which the minivan flipped onto its left side.
After field sobriety testing, police charged McLaughlin with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn. McLaughlin was released on $50 bail for an August 1 court appearance.
Minivan passenger Ben Tirigall, 19, of 11 Reservoir Road was transported by ambulance volunteers to Danbury Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, police said. Hook & Ladder firefighters went to the accident to clean up an automotive fluid spill.
Rollover Crash
Police report that motorist Leo Richardson, 19, of 31 Osborn Hill Road was driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla sedan northward on Boggs Hill Road at high speed at about 10:23 pm July 6, when after approaching a right curve, the Toyota did not negotiate the curve, skidded across the southbound lane, drove off the road, hit a stone wall, drove 30 feet into a wooded area and then rolled over on its roof.
The Toyota carried three passengers. They are Andrew Kmetetz, 17, of 46 Old Green Road; Nicholas Hall, 19, of 33 Cherry Street, and Vincent Guilfoil, 19, of 83 Castle Hill Road, police said.
The autoâs occupants told police they were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. All four people were treated at the scene by ambulance volunteers, police said.
Police issued Richardson an infraction ticket for traveling too fast for conditions and for failure to keep to the right on a curve.
Tire Mishap
About 2:12 pm July 10, motorist Nicholas Perugini, 36, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1991 GMC Sierra pickup truck hauling a trailer, turned right form Wasserman Way onto eastbound Route 34, police said.
At that time, a tire that was in the truckâs trailer fell off the trailer and struck the left side of a 1999 Saab 9/5 station wagon being driven westward on Route 34 by Rachel Basch, 47, of 27 Gelding Hill Road, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Perugini a written warning for traveling with an unsecured load.
South Main Crash
Motorist Mary Lenkeit, 43, of 15 Greenbriar Lane, who was driving a 1995 Ford Windstar southward on South Main Street about 9:55 am July 11, was attempting to make a right turn onto Greenbriar Lane when she was struck from behind by trucker Jose G. Santiago, Jr, 33, of New Haven, who was driving a 2004 Freightliner, police said.
There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Santiago for following too closely.
