NHS Freshman Gridders Went 8-1

Newtown High School’s freshman football team posted an 8-1 record this fall, reeling off eight consecutive victories after a loss. The offense was led by quarterback Drew Tarantino, who threw for more than 1,000 yards, and completed 21 touchdown passes. Fullback Cooper Gold ran for 500-plus yards and scored 12 touchdowns. The top receivers were Jimmy Leidlein, Tommy Gleason, each of whom had multiple touchdowns.

Defensively, the Nighthawks were led by Linemen Josh Krapf, Cam Partrick, and Nick Norberg. Standout linebackers were Gold, Matt White, and Connor Noonan. The secondary was led by Mike Davis and Leidlein at safety, and strong corner play from Austin Babyak.

The highlight of the season was Newtown’s final-game win over Masuk, the team’s first win over the Panthers in 11 years.
