Police Plan Sobriety Checkpoint

Police plan to hold a sobriety checkpoint on the night of Saturday, December 9, as part of a drunken driving law enforcement campaign.

Police did not disclose the location of the checkpoint.

Two similar checkpoints held earlier this year were conducted at the intersection of Mile Hill Road and Trades Lane at Fairfield Hills.

Police will have seven officers and a supervisor on hand at the sobriety checkpoint. Each vehicle passing the checkpoint will be stopped and motorists will be asked a series of questions by police to determine whether drivers are operating their motor vehicles under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Besides the December 9 sobriety checkpoint, police plan to conduct additional patrols during the holiday period to enforce laws on drunken driving, seat belt use, and child safety restraint use.

Those extra patrols will be on duty December 8, 15, 16, 22, 23, and 31.

The costs for the additional law enforcement are covered through highway safety grant funding.
