OBITS (Forster; Titus; Tenney; Oberman)
William G. Forster
William G. Forster, a retired commander of the US Navy and father of six, died
at the age of 71 at his home in Brewster, Mass. June 15 after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Lita `Lee' (Kirkwood) Forster.
A former resident of Newtown, he and his late wife moved in 1995 to West
Barnstable, Mass., and later to Brewster, Mass.
Born and raised in St Louis, Mo., he was a graduate of the University of
Missouri with a degree in business. He continued his education at the United
States Navy Flight School in Pensacola, Fla. and Milton, Fla., and did post
graduate school in Monterey, Calif. He was also an Eagle Scout in the Order of
the Arrow.
His career in the US Navy from 1946-1968 was as a flight instructor and pilot
of the fixed wing and helicopter division.
A Korean War veteran, he was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal,
Air Medal, China Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Navy
Occupation Service Medal.
Following his retirement from the Navy in 1968, Mr Forster worked for Sikorsky
Aircraft in Stratford as an accident investigator, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of Captain's Golf Course in Brewster, Mass., an outreach
volunteer of Brewster Senior Center, member of the Widowed Persons Service,
and Flying Midshipmen Association.
He is survived by four sons, Gregory Forster of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., Todd
Forster of Griswold, David Forster of Altus, Okla., and Craig Hendricks of
Shawnee on Delaware, Penn.; two daughters, Paige Ransford of Canton, Mass.,
and Jill Coxe of Westport; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station
Avenue, South Yarmouth, on Friday, June 18, at 10 am. Interment will follow in
Quivet Cemetery, East Dennis, Mass.

Arthur S. Titus
Arthur S. Titus, 72, a retired postal carrier at the Newtown Post Office, died
in New Milford Hospital on June 9 after being stricken ill at home. He lived
at 45 Old Farms Lane in New Milford and was the husband of Carol (Potter)
Titus.
He was the father of Maureen LaPak of Newtown.
He was born in New Rochelle, N.Y. on June 19, 1926, son of the late Carleton
and Annabelle (Halkier) Titus. He attended Farmingdale Community College in
New York.
During World War II, Mr Titus served in the US Army and was in the Army of
Occupation in Germany. In 1956, he moved to Newtown and became a postal
carrier, a position he held for 33 years, retiring in 1990.
A resident of New Milford for the past six years, Mr Titus was a volunteer at
the Sunny Valley Foundation. He belonged to the Peregrin Fund, the Flanders
Nature Center in Woodbury, Western Connecticut Bird Club and the White
Memorial Foundation. He was a member of the National Audubon Society and was
an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
Mr Titus is survived, besides his wife and daughter, by three sons, James of
Brookfield, Douglas of Broad Brook, and Mark of New Milford; another daughter,
Gwen Onufrak of Bellingham, Mass.; two brothers, Kenneth Titus of Delray
Beach, Fla. and Donald Titus of Katonah, N.Y.; and ten grandchildren. He was
predeceased by a son, Glen.
A Service of Remembrance was held on June 12 at the Honan Funeral Home, 58
Main Street, Newtown. Cremation followed.

Donald H. Tenney
Donald H. Tenney, 82, husband of Edith (Berglund) Tenney, of 4 Chestnut Hill
Road, Sandy Hook, died unexpectedly June 12 in Danbury Hospital.
He was the father of James D. Tenney and Steven H. Tenney of Sandy Hook.
Mr Tenney was born in Glendale, Mass., May 24, 1917, a son of the late Hugh L.
and Effie (Stowell) Tenney. He was a graduate of Williams High School in
Stockbridge, Mass., where he was valedictorian of his class.
A resident of Sandy Hook since 1939, he was employed as a tractor trailer
driver for the Curtis Packaging Company for 40 years until his retirement in
1985.
Mr Tenney served in the Coast Guard Reserves. He was longtime secretary and
treasurer of the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire Company. He was a classic car
enthusiast and an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his wife and sons, he is survived by two daughters, Judith
Martinez of Roxbury and Donna L. Tenney of Danbury; four brothers, Ralph and
Herbert of Great Barrington, Mass., Charles of Stockbridge, Mass. and Robert
of Florida; two sisters, Gladys LaGrant and Grace Pixley, both of Lee, Mass.;
six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held June 16 in the Newtown United Methodist Church.
Burial took place in Zoar Cemetery.

Arrangements were by the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.

Max Oberman
Max Oberman, 74, of Stamford, father of Anita Pettengill of Sandy Hook, died
June 11 in Stamford Hospital of respiratory failure.
He was born in Poland December 13, 1924, to the late Avraham and Leah
(Skobick) Oberman. He was the husband of Sadie G. (Saltzman) Oberman.
Mr Oberman was a survivor of the Holocaust. He had been self-employed as the
Customer Peddler.
Survivors, in addition to his wife and daughter, Anita, include two other
daughters, Lana Oberman of Stamford and Debbie Oberman of Waterbury; a son,
Edward Oberman of Williamtown, N.J.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Congregation Aquadath Sholom, 301 Strawberry
Hill Avenue, Stamford.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Holocaust Museum, 100 Raoul
Wallenberg Place S.W., Washington, D.C. 20024. All checks should be annotated
in the memory of Max Oberman.
Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, was in
charge of arrangements.
