St Rose of Lima School had an international theme for the school day on April 4, when it celebrated its annual International Day with different activities.

This year's International Day began with an "Olympic"-style opening ceremony, according to St Rose Director of Mission Advancement Laura Moulder. The entire school prayed for peace around the world at a peace ceremony, and students acted as flag bearers.

Later buddy classes teamed up to visit different classrooms to learn about countries. During the "passport" activities, classes took part in cultural crafts, singing, and dancing, according to Ms Moulder.

In one classroom, St Rose of Lima School parent Fanny Schumacher shared a collection of items from Germany, all collected by her husband Stephen Schumacher. As classes entered, Ms Schumacher provided information about Germany and a description of the craft the students would do to celebrate the country's culture. Students then set to work, creating their own paper versions of German Alpine hats. For one lesson that day, sixth graders worked with their buddy class, kindergartners, to fold the paper hats and decorate them, finishing the hats with a feather.

Other countries that students learned about during International Day were Mexico, Ireland, Australia, Sweden, and Egypt.
