Newtown High School’s musical production of City Of Angels is set to open for audiences on Thursday, March 19, and run through Sunday, March 22.

City of Angels is a musical about a novelist trying to turn a book into a screenplay, and it shows both the plot of the writer’s attempt to create a screenplay and the plot of the fictional film being created.

City of Angels will be performed Thursday through Saturday, March 19-21, at 7 pm; and Sunday, March 22, at 2 pm.

Tickets are $14 for students and senior citizens and $18 for adults. They will be available at the door and are available in advance online at nhsc.booktix.com.

Following the school district's decision to release all Newtown Public Schools for an early dismissal on Friday, March 20, due to the anticipated weather, the Friday, March 20, presentation of the musical was cancelled, as announced by NHS. According to the school, all tickets purchased in advance for the Friday showing will be accepted for the Saturday or Sunday performances.

The production team is Director Jane Matson, Producer Janice Gabriel, Musical Director Brett Boles, Rehearsal Pit Conductor Kurt Eckhardt, and Technical Advisor Brian Tenney.

“It’s funny and the music is so, so great,” said Ms Matson, just before a rehearsal on Friday, March 13. She added that people should come out to see the show, “and they should support these kids, because these kids work very, very hard.”
